76ers get to modify protections to skip this year (top 4 2026) to keep a top lottery pick, for a swap that might not even convey (OKC 2028 already has a Mavs swap that just got more valuable due to Luka trade) and another swap of 2029 76ers/LAC. Yabu is also being sent to OKC for a 2nd.
Denver has already done similar deals with OKC in the past, and here they get 2 really good picks that will be around 22 in 2025, likely around the same next year (2nd least of OKC's 2026 OKC/LAC/HOU picks), plus a 2026 Utah top 8 pick that may turn into nothing. Denver is sending OKC their 2031 unprotected.
This is if Spurs plan to buyout CP3, so if he plans to stay in SA, then the Spurs would be removed. But if the buyout chatter is real, this is great for the Spurs, much better than just tossing CP3 $11m, OKC gets to secure him from others on the buyout market, and CP3 gets a big chance at a championship in OKC and returns to a place that has been a huge part of his career, both with the NO Hornets and with the Thunder and SGA.
OKC gets to keep CP3 off the buyout market for a farewell tour and Championship run. They also pickup one of the best backup PF's who can shoot and grab rebounds. Both of which are expiring that OKC could easily decide to keep or part ways with after the season. OKC also moves out of the 2025 draft they don't have roster spots for besides the Miami pick that is either right outside the lottery or moves into 2026, while also have excess 2026 picks they could dip into 2025 if needed with. OKC also signs Ajay to a 4 yr non-guaranteed contract and signs Brandon Carlson to a 2 way contract.
