With the Timberwolves showing interest in John Collins and Atlanta and John not agreeing on a contract extension, the hawks need to expect the worst and try gain value for him instead of losing him in free agency.
For the Timberwolves: Minnesota gives the hawks a mix of young prospects and draft compensation to acquire John Collins to fill the massive void at PF. John Collins gives the TWolves someone who can step up when either one of or both stars are injured. Collins will also provide much needed defense at the 4 spot with his defense improving every season. Minnesota will also get Toby snell in this trade. Snell is basically just a salary match and I could see the wolves buying out his contract.
For the Hawks: John Collins is expecting to get paid this off-season but Atlanta is hesitant to pay him. Instead of losing him for nothing, in this deal Atlanta picks up two very young, great defenders, one of whom (culver) has the potential to be an elite two-way player. Hawks also receive juancho who can come off the bench as a solid catch and shoot 3/4.
