The former Knicks are poor fits for Minnesota's system, and if Randle opts into his player option next year, the team will likely lose Naz and NAW. Here, Wolves would trade away their former Knicks players to fill positions of need and collect $35M in expiring contracts that will allow them to re-sign Naz and NAW instead and reset more fully to the Anthony Edwards timeline.
The Wolves would send DiVincenzo back to the Warriors, where he excelled as a proven system fit in the 22-23 season, and where Golden State can keep him locked in on an incredible contract. Warriors also get fan-favorite forward Josh Minott, a solid cutter and interior passer who would get the opportunity to prove himself in Kerr's 12 man system.
In return, the Wolves would take on sophomore slumping Podziemski, who despite losing his shot would excel in the Wolves' system as a high-IQ slasher and playmaker. They would also would absorb Melton's expiring contract after he went out for the season with injury. Draft compensation would include a first, an Atlanta second, and the full ownership of the 2031 second that Wolves already owned the swap to.
The Wolves would then trade with the Wizards for Brogdon and Valanciunas, who would serve as back-ups and possible fill-ins for aging Conley and Gobert, respectively. This would also provide the benefit of Brogdon and Melton's mentorship for rookie PG Dillingham, and having Valanciunas would allow Naz Reid to play full-time at the 4.
In return, the Wizards would receive Randle and Garza, both of whom would make interesting developmental pairings for Sarr. Randle would excel with a mobile floor-stretching 5 like Sarr, and Garza, an all-offense 5, could get run with Sarr at the 4. Randle could either be flipped, allowed to expire, or used as a developmental piece for an additional year through player opt-in or contract renegotiation. As draft compensation, Wizards would receive Utah's 2025 second and the 2026 second from Atlanta via Golden State.
Finally, Wolves would waive P.J. Dozier, and convert Jesse Edwards from a two-way to a full contract to serve as their third-string center.
