Rafael Nadal

In the round of 32 of the 2023 Australian Open, Nadal tore his left iliopsoas muscle in his hip; this caused him to miss the rest of the 2023 tour season and he’d also struggle physically in his return in 2024; retiring in October that year.

In 2022 he was still a definitive top 5 player, but in 2024 he showed flashes of his former self yet couldn’t appear in many events due to lingering effects of his injury.

Do you think this was a career altering/ending injury? As in, if he hadn’t gotten that injury, would he still be a top contender on tour?
