Player analysis
Chet is a controversial prospect that is seen very differently by people, some believe he is a Bol Bol caliber player who can’t compete against the physicality of NBA bigs but others believe in the upside of a two-way superstar in the making. Chet has a very high defensive IQ which pairs very well with his towering size at 7’1, but his true untapped potential lies in his offense which was slotted into a specific role at Gonzaga. With Gonzaga he was more of a stretch five who could block shots which seems very projectable into the league but it’s his other offensive tools in the paint that worry. His body is extremely frail but many invalid arguments surrounding his draft position have been based purely on his physicality which I don’t feel is very fair, so many high level players in the league, especially bigs, have started off with physical defects that haven't held them back or their careers back in the slightest. Holmgren knows how to use his body and plays to his physical strengths but also knows how to cover his weaknesses like his strength through skill. Many also have problems with his personality after comments in the media but honestly it’s such a joke because you can tell he was just messing around but fans and the media just ran away with it, it seems as if fans are just grasping at anything to tear Chet down simply because of his weight which is just crazy. Chet’s underrated skill is his playmaking, he is a lowkey connective tissue that was great as a secondary assiter with many of his passes leading to assists rather than turnovers. Holmgren is a winning player who tries to make the smart play rather than the flashy one, he takes the right shot and dishes it out when he needs to. Despite difficulties he might find in the NBA, I have no doubt that he will adapt and translate into winning plays and winning games. Whichever team in the top three that drafts him will get an unbelievably talented player that almost always has the team in mind over personal production.
