Definitely has a Randle like game. Powerful ball handling forward that is very hard to stop when he gets downhill. Doesn't have much of a game outside of the 3 point line. Good touch and rebounder. Shades of Randle. Defends and underrated passer

Collin Murray-Boyles High End: 15/16 Draymond Green Low End: Derrick Williams with high feel Median outcome: Jazz Paul Millsap/Anthony Mason Pros: Defense, playmaking, fundamentals, rebounding, athleticism Cons: Size, shooting Verdict: CMB is already a good basketball player without his shot and with him, it’s just easier to take the risk with what he could be as opposed to being too hung up on what he isn’t. Murray-Boyles is already one of the best defenders in college basketball at his size with excellent big man skills in rebounding and post defense, while also being an effective interior scorer with his footwork. His size is an obvious concern, but he is such a powerful and strong force despite that and holds up well against way taller big men in the SEC. Murray-Boyles has also shown signs of playmaking out of the post and with the fact that he has taken quite a few long 2s and his free throw numbers also seem promising enough for him to be able to develop a league average shot from the perimeter, it might not be outside of the realm of possibility to see his offensive game develop similar to players like Draymond Green.

Here’s the full scouting report on Collin Murray-Boyles in English:

Comprehensive Scout Report:
Collin Murray-Boyles is a forward from South Carolina and a promising prospect for the 2025 NBA Draft. He stands out due to his physicality, basketball IQ, and versatility on the court.

Strengths:

  • Interior Scoring: Great finishing ability around the rim, with strong touch and the physicality to absorb contact.

  • Rebounding: Tenacious on the boards, particularly on the offensive end.

  • Defense: Highly versatile, capable of guarding multiple positions and disrupting opponents.

  • Athleticism: Impressive lateral quickness and vertical explosiveness.

Areas for Improvement:

  • Shooting Range: Needs to develop a consistent jump shot, especially from long range.

  • Size: At 6'7", he may face challenges against taller NBA forwards.

  • Turnovers: Can be prone to errors when attacking off the dribble.

Floor and Ceiling:

  • Floor: A reliable rotation player in the NBA, providing defense, rebounding, and energy.

  • Ceiling: A high-impact starter or potential All-defense, depending on his offensive development.

Player Comparison:
Often compared to Draymond Green for his defensive impact and basketball IQ, and Julius Randle for his physicality and interior scoring. Some also see him as a “lite” version of Grant Williams, given his two-way contributions.

Draft Projection:
He is projected to be selected between the lottery and mid-first round in the 2025 NBA Draft, contingent on his continued development.

COLLIN MURRAY BOYLES

Position/Archetype: Old School Bully 4

College: South Carolina

Pros:

  • Size and Strength: 239 Lbs is big and he is very strong which allowed him to dominate in college, probably less effective in the NBA but still has NBA physicals already and should have the ability to bully as a post player.

  • Defensive Production and STOCKS: Im gonna talk a lot of offensive scheme fit today but what I will say as a defender he fits pretty well, great feel defensively his stock production is amazing, he has worked switchable off the pick and roll and has been effective post defender especially for his height, gets a lot of blocks you wouldn't expect him to maybe get. I love how he keeps his body in front. I think he can be better defending the more agile players as he is quite slow but i'm not picking a bit, one of the top defenders in the draft.

  • Rebounds: High Rebound production with his size general ability to find the right position and boxes out well, gets good offensive boards he can put back over people. Adds to his ability as a big man.

  • Passing Vision: As a Big he has good vision for passes. What I find the most impressive is his ability to find open shooters out the high post back to the basket. Primarily this is pretty much how he gets his assists, I think his vision is good in that way but there's a lot to develop. He barely gets assists off cutters, has a few nice dump offs but he also rushes his passes when driving can be inaccurate or force passes too much and generally doesn't get a lot of assists outside of posting up.

  • Finishing Touch: Has a 63%TS pretty much all coming from layups and post play and shoots 64.5% under the basket, gets enough hang time for some really nice technical finishes and his general touch is very strong which makes him effective in the post.

  • Isolation, Free Throw Rate and Gravity: He doesn't have 3 point gravity but he definitely does in the post, which allows him to have his effectiveness as a passer through the post in college. He his a very effective isolation player at 88th percentile with his handle being developed enough to drive past opponents and strong enough to create space physically, combined with a great finishing touch and athleticism this was effective in college. I have Questions with how effective this will be at the NBA level being quite undersized with better post defenders and how generally it can work in modern NBA schemes. South Carolina wasn't effective as a team playing out his isolation post play. He does get consistent points drawing fouls which is nice with a .556 FTA Rate.

Cons:

  • Floor spacing and Shot map: 26% 3pt shooter on 1 attempt a game shooting only college length threes, low volume mid range game. Little spacing as a Forward while being pretty stuck positionally due to his height. His combine shooting was terrible pretty much the most disappointing 3pt night from him airballing in a clip and going like 3/15 in one it was not fun at all to watch and really doesn't give me any confidence this develops.

  • Height: 6'6 1/2 without shoes so we are looking at just under to exactly 6'8 with them pretty much locks you in at the 4, he could potentially play small ball 5 stints, his shooting ability locks him offensively as a 4 or 5 so we lose some versatility because his height really stops him from ever being a consistent 5 in my opinion locking him at the 4.

  • Turnovers: Ast/To Ratio under 1 is never great, it is just under 1 almost exactly 1 but i've watched every turnover now and I can tell you most of these come from high pressure situations and playing fast off the dribble play which doesn't fill me with confidence to fit in high pace systems, gets poked quite a bit in iso, his Passing isn't always accurate when out of the post leading me to believe his passing ability gets overplayed and overrated.

  • Schematic Fit: As a Isolation player who really didn't do anything off ball that intrigues you or anything to a high volume all we can really say is he is a high post player who can be used in isolation possession to create passes using his gravity and score under the post, thats all I can see. And thats cool as a college player, pretty effective, but that doesn't always work as an NBA player, similar players stylistically would be Julius Randle for example who had developed a three point shot and was much younger coming into the league, Draymond was a better Passer and shooter in college, Paul Millsap developed a three point shot to meet the current needs of an NBA player. Other high post players are Either/or taller, better passers and stretch the floor better. I generally don't see a team where he seamlessly fits their style, you have to commit to playing his own game reducing tactical versatility which we've seen get exploited in the playoffs for various example of player like this. e.g. Julius Randle.

NBA Pro Comp: Early Paul Millsap, Juwan Morgan, some stylistic resemblances to Julius Randle and Draymond Green without a jumper for both

Projection: A guy with the defensive ability of CMB will find a way on the court, I just don't view him as much of a high level player as the consensus. I just cant grasp the value of him offensively to a team with Iso based play and the Defensively his size leaves a few questions on switch ability. To me the ceiling is like a Paul Millsap if he develops a three I highly doubt he does, an a floor is a Juwan Morgan who have similar styles I guess? It's all dependant on where he finds himself come draft night and to me that isn't something that makes me confident.

CMB is a talented post player in this upcoming draft and has potential to be a plug-and-play option for just about every NBA team. He's got great feel for the game as a defender and off-ball mover who cuts to the basket with skill and efficiency. He's got really, really quick hands which helps him generate steals and disrupt ballhandlers in general. CMB is a massive guy, and defenders bounce off him as he heads towards the rim. His strength, along with his passing and finishing, shines brightest when he goes to work in the post. He's also pretty crafty, using his start-and-stop ability to generate open shots. He's super undersized and isn't a good shooter but he has the skill set to carve out a legit NBA role. Overall, look for CMB in or just outside the lottery.

NBA Comp: Draymond, Ron Artest

SCOUTING REPORTS: Collin Murray-Boyles: CMB is an elite two way threat, he is one of the most consistent and talented defenders in the draft only being topped by Flagg and maybe Penda or Bryant, he is a great interior scorer especially for only being 6’7. Has decent floor vision and utilizes his paint presence to bring help and get his teammates open, good accuracy on passes. Very good one on one as a driver and a post player, makes his strong frame 245lbs an asset by pushing defenders out of the way and finishing through contact well.

Archetype: Two Way Forward/ Small Ball Big.

Player Comp(s): Draymond Green, Julius Randle, Jimmy Butler.

Dream Team Fits: CMB Can Fit Anywhere No Matter The Roster.

Overall Score: 57.49.
