Strengths

  • "Has ideal physical tools for an NBA wing. Was one of the most impactful defenders in the college game and has All-NBA potential thanks to his excellent lateral quickness

  • high intensity level and sound technique. Was often tasked with shutting down the point of attack for Auburn

  • but has the size

  • strength

  • length and toughness to defend power forwards as well."

  • "Great finisher who delivers through contact

  • draws fouls

  • and displays a pillowy touch with either hand."

  • "Smart decision-maker who moves the ball

  • can run some pick-and-roll

  • and doesn’t force bad shots—instead of taking a contested runner

  • he’ll almost always kick it out to an open shooter."

  • "Displays a good handle with either hand on crossovers

  • spins

  • and hesitations. He could have untapped

  • long-term upside as a shot creator."

  • "Versatile on-ball defender with the strength to battle bigger players

  • and the ideal blend of fundamentals

  • quickness

  • and intelligence to play on the perimeter."

  • "A high-IQ

  • competitive defender who excels within the team concept by rotating well and disrupting opponents’ actions."

  • "Dynamic athlete with incredible leaping ability; can impact the game playing above the rim (led college basketball in dunks last season)"

  • "Efficient shooter from inside the perimeter and effective from outside

  • too. He shot 41.7% from 3 during his time at Dayton."

  • "Underrated passer and playmaker from his position who is quickly able to read defenses and make accurate passes when necessary"

Areas to Improve

  • "Is he a good enough overall scorer to warrant being a top-10 pick? His 16 points per 40 minutes is the lowest scoring rate of any college player currently projected in the top 20."

  • "Stiff shooter with clunky mechanics—defenses already sag off him. He brings the ball to his shot pocket too soon

  • ruining the timing of his release."

  • "Nonfactor off the dribble."

  • "Subpar free throw shooter

  • which doesn’t provide much optimism for the development of his jumper."

  • "Lacks burst and quickness on drives to the rim

  • so his flashes of shot-creating ability may never translate to the NBA."

  • "Limited mobility moving laterally will hinder his ability to defend on the perimeter and switch onto more mobile wings and forwards"

  • "Explosive leaper

  • but physically he will have challenges matching up against bigger forwards in the post in the NBA"

  • "Average rebounder

  • especially for a player his size and at his position"

NBA COMPARISON - Caron Butler. Jimmy Butler. OG Anunoby

Isaac Okoro is most likely the most athletic player in this draft, and his defense is outstanding, so he will be a valuable asset. However he needs to improve his scoring ability to be completely effective. If he did have great offense, he would be a top 5 or maybe a top 3 player in the draft.

High motor dunker, high motor player. Above average rebounder. Penetration + Hard to the paint. Explosive first step. Struggled to shoot 3''s and only took 70, 28.6%. If he can''t do that he is limited offensively to start. Excellent defender. + Looks to be a terrific fit to develop within the role of getting to the basket and locking up on D. A likely candidate as a sparkplug within the top 7 or 8 of a rotation.

NBA Comp: Marcus Smart: Strengths: Fits the prototype physically of an NBA small forward with his 6’6 220 lb. frame and strong athletic ability, and he uses his size well to compliment his playing style … A good finisher at the rim off 1 or both feet, and is able to convert through contact and with either hand effectively … Has decent length for a wing with a 6’8.5 wingspan and 8’4.5 standing reach … Flashes good touch to complete plays around the rim on drives when he’s unable to score on dunks … Capable of highlight finishes where he utilizes his great explosiveness and strength to power through contact … Has a lot of composure and confidence for a freshman, and looks the part as a no nonsense future pro, with focus and determination … A slasher with the ball in his hands, shows good body control, strength and has enough juice in his 1st step off the dribble to get in the lane with effectiveness in the NBA … Seems to be a high IQ player, generally plays to his strengths on both end

A freak athlete and freak defender, with a lot potential also as facilitator on offense. It''s hard to bet on his shooting potential. In the right team, where they do not ask him too much immediately, he could develop well, in a bad team he could become a bust. I am not so high on him.

The Cavs need a 3 that''s good at defense. They have plenty of shooting, plenty of rebounding, but not enough defense. Easy pick for them.

Nba Comparrison: OG Anunoby Okoro is a physical defensive wing who was all defensive team potential. His ball handling and playmaking are exceptional for a player like him, and has shown a very high iq. Hes an excellent rebounder who does not need to have an offensive game in order ti be impactful. His scoring is a bit raw as it needs more development. He mase just 29% from 3 and 67% from the line.

Physically strong wings are statistically less likely to bust, despite prominent examples proving otherwise. With good work ethic, he could improve various facets of his game and become the most versatile player in this draft.
