  • Limited range of players he can guard

  • Needs to be more physical defending driving players, he gives too much space allowing easy shots

  • Poor contests in the paint often just swatting at the ball

Drive first 2 guard with a nice stop and go game with great touch. Jumpshot is suspect. Not the best mechanics but pretty good shooting numbers. Decent passer. Kris Dunn.

Labaron Philon High End: Jumbo Kyle Lowry Low End: TJ McConnell Median outcome: Jrue Holiday lite (Cason Wallace) Pros: Motor, playmaking, interior scoring, rebounding Cons: Frame, shot consistency, athleticism Verdict: Labaron Philon might just be a freshman, but he plays such a winning style of basketball on both sides of the game. He doesn’t have elite burst compared to other guard prospects, but his best physical trait is his change of direction which allows him to play a herky-jerky style (almost Jalen Brunson) and makes him a good interior scorer when combining his craftiness and touch on floaters. His feel as a playmaker is immense and really opens the floor up for him. He still needs to improve on his comfortability on 3pt shooting as he has shown flashes throughout the year that he can make them on a decent clip. Another area for improvement would be learning to finish through contact as he is still quite light in his current body.

this is just kam jones 2.0, except a younger version who hasn’t managed his energy and motor as well as jones has.

every pro of jones can be applied to philon (just maybe not to the same extent). philon has more upside though and could be a slightly better player in the future. they’re pretty similar prospects overall just with philon being more raw and less NBA ready currently (and not as good as a lead ball handler yet).

need to watch more film on philon, know he's fallen off a little bit but i've yet to see how much. ranking could change later.

Philon is a legit playmaker and scorer for a really good Bama team. He is a good defender as well. His 3-pointer is inconsistent right now. He struggled in the ncaa tourney guarding bigger guards such as Sion James.

NBA Comp: Darius Garland

At the start, he will just be a good defender but could be more if the shot comes around. He could be a starter but i think it's the high end outcome for him.

NBA comparison : Jalen Suggs/NAW

Driving PG with defensive chops and some playmaking to go along with it.

Offensively, Philon seems to understand his limitations and manages them well. He's been a huge part to this Alabama team's success.

Philon is thin, and not a great shooter. This is a bit of a concern going into the league since he could struggle driving against guys a lot stronger than him. His shot falls, but his mechanics look a bit off, and it's clear he isn't confident from 3. Mostly shoots it off of catches.

Great defensive awareness and focus. If he bulked up a bit, he could be a real problem.

Labaron Philon feels like a pretty sure bet for a solid NBA career, since he has a level of maturity and decision-making that PGs need.
