Ryan Dunn had quickly become one of the most underrated prospects in this draft despite being a pretty well known name among draft circles. I am not saying this lightly; I think he is the most skilled defender we have seen in a draft class since Mattise Thybulle. He is an incredibly smart and versatile defender who has been able to guard almost every position at the college level. I think we throw around the idea that a player can guard 1-5 way too often, but Dunn may be one of the few players who can actually fit that descriptions. He has the speed and screen navigation to give most smaller guards a hard time, while also having the strength and vertical e athleticism to give bigger players a hard time around the rim. He also is an excellent off-ball defender. He doesn’t get caught ball watching, plays great help defense, and has fantastic hands that earned him a lot of blocks and steals. I am comfortable saying that Ryan Dunn has all defense first team potential, and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he won multiple DPOY’s during his career. The questions start to arise with his offense, which I think gets over hated. He isn’t a great shooter or ball handler at this stage, but he is a really good cutter and had the ability to finish around the rim. I also think there is potential for his shot to improve. His mechanics are already pretty solid. Giving him NBA level training for his shooting could do wonders for him. Even if he never develops his shot to be more than league average, he is still going to be one of the best wing defenders in the NBA day one, and he will have an immediate role on a team because of that. He is legitimately one of the best wing defenders we’ve seen in the last decade, and he definitely should be a lottery pick on draft night. I understand the concerns with him, but it will be very hard for me to have him much lower than this on my big board.
