Ryan Rollins: 6'3.25" 180 lbs
Ryan Rollins is a clever, smooth shot creating guard who dominated the MAC. Rollins is not a freak athlete but the ability to navigate pick and roll and get to his spots allows for him to be an impressive scorer. Rollins tends to be right hand dominant but has a super clean and tight handle that allows for him to get wherever he wants to go. Rollins uses pick and roll navigation to get to the rim and demonstrates great touch on intermediate shots. Rollins has long arms and can be adequate defensively due to good instincts and if he is playable on defense, he definitely has the offensive repertoire to play a role on NBA teams especially if his 3 point shot comes around to compliment his crafty scoring habits he has developed.
Strengths:
Smooth shot creator.
Experienced and productive pick and roll operator.
Has good touch (80% ft shooter) and shoots a lot of floaters.
Good rebounder for size and position.
Tight handle.
Gets in passing lanes well.
Midrange game is awesome. Made about 44 percent of his jumpers from the midrange. Makes tough ones and easy ones alike.
Concerns:
Does not have blow by speed nor too much pop.
Goes right to the rim. Must work on left hand when attacking the rim.
Tad bit undersized for a 2 guard.
Ryan Rollins will have to navigate the predicament that is being a tad undersized for a 2 and not quite being a 1. Many guards before him that score well in a slithery fashion using pick and rolls have found success and he could be next in line, especially if the touch indicators of his floater game and field goal/ free throw percentage being impressive translate to improvements from deep. Rollins likely will carve out his role as a second unit scorer but could find his way into a complimentary scorer for a team with a defined star.
