So the offseason for the Blazers have sucked so far, Tony Snell and Cody Zeller don't exactly make us championship contenders but that is to be expected as no free agent wants to come to Portland. We did resign Powell for 5 years which is fine because he probably coulda gotten 65 mil over 3 if he wanted it. Realistically if Portland wants to win a championship with Dame as their guy, they only have about 3 years. So I think that this move allows the Blazers to start to contend now, and have a better chance in the next 2-3 years. Dame will continue to play how he does barring injury for at least another 2 years and then he might fall to an all-nba 3rd team level instead of 1st or 2nd for another year or two. So adding young guys that already have a skillset down but have room to grow is a great way to go. We do sacrifice our picks to do so but we need to make major moves if we want to contend. So we should go get Ben Simmons, I don't think Philly would do a Simmons for McCollum deal straight up as its rumored they want Dame. But, if they give up 2 firsts and a pick swap, Daryl Morey might say yes because he can use those picks in other trades to fill gaps. Simmons is a guy that could unlock himself playing next to dame even if he doesn't develop a jump shot. He would still be able to run out in transition and make the right play or just take it to the rim, but he would also be able to post up and cut in a half court setting too. Of course adding Simmons also dramatically increases our defense too. Then we go to the Hawks who are looking to sell Cam Reddish as they have an abundance of young wings and sooner or later they have to pay them and they can't pay them all. They have been asking for a first in return for Cam but I think Simons + 2 seconds could get the deal done too as he can add scoring off the bench, is on an expiring deal, and if they want to keep him won't cost as much as Cam. For Portland, Cam can be used as a two-way wing and could develop into something more than that down the line. For now, playing as a backup to Roco would be great for him and he could take on the role of a 6th man for us. All in all I think the teams get fairly compensated for this, except kinda Philly but at this point Simmons value has tanked way too much. and we improve our chances of contention for years to come.
