So as you know... the Blazers have a three-guard lineup as of right now. And only 1 of them can play legit defense... his name is Norman Powell. The Blazers won't consider trading Lillard, but McCollum is now expendable. He can be too ball-dominate and try to play like Kobe sometimes, and that cost the Blazers the game yesterday. He would be perfect on the Lakers, Clippers, Bucks, or 76ers. But when I look at what the team needs and they need defense and a different style offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the Blazers need a legit point-of-attack defender and rim protector. So my four main trade targets are; Ben Simmons, Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Myles Turner. Ben Simmons can act as the Point-of-attack defender, and become the primary ball-handler on offense, thus allowing Dame, Powell, and Covington to get more open shots. Myles Turner and Brook Lopez are legit rim-protectors and can act as pick-and-pop threats with Dame and Powell. Khris Middleton can serve as a very reliable scoring option and point-of-attack defender. The Blazers would be a top 15 defense, dare I say a top 10 defense along with a top 10 offense, with the starting lineup of: Damian Lillard - Norman Powell - Ben Simmons/Khris Middleton - Robert Covington - Brook Lopez/Myles Turner.
However, I am not sure what to give up for these players.
For Ben Simmons, I'd want to give up CJ McCollum, Anfernee Simons, and two unprotected first-round picks. And if the 76ers are willing, add Mattise Thybulle. But is that an offer the 76ers would be interested in? McCollum is older, but a nice fit offensively alongside Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid. Simons has turned into a nice scoring combo-guard, but the 76ers have Maxey and Milton, so they might not want to get Simons?
For Myles Turner. I'd be willing to give up Nurkic + Jones Jr + pick for him. Nurkic would have some value next year because he is on an expiring contract, and whatever team gets him will have his bird rights. But Nurkic and Sabonis would not be a terrific fit, although Derrick Jones Jr would be really nice on the Pacers.
For Brook Lopez, I'd be willing to give up Nurkic + 2nds or Nurkic + Jones Jr/Little + pick for Lopez + Pat Connaughton. Lopez lacks the foot speed to keep up with the big men of the east(Specifically Bam, Siakam, and Embiid). But his interior defense can easily earn him all-nba honors. Nurkic could bring his playmaking and interior game to the Bucks and help out Giannis, but do the Bucks rely on Lopez shooting ability?
For Khris Middleton, I'd easily give up McCollum straight up, but perhaps it'd take more? I could see the Bucks moving on from Lopez and Middleton if they fail in the playoffs once again. McCollum could be the scorer Giannis needs?
Who do you think the Blazers should target? And what would be the best package for that player?
