Note I am well aware that the current rumors surrounding Wiggins suggest that the Warriors would like to use his contract to get a replacement for Klay (Markkanen and Lavine have both been suggested). With that said, let’s be honest, the Warriors don’t have enough assets to get Markkanen and the Bulls would be foolish to sell Lavine for “pennies on the dollar.” This trade is a realistic option for the Warriors to try and improve their roster. Onto the main post.

For Golden State: it’s reported that they want off of Wiggins contract. This trade accomplishes that and helps with other issues. The starting SG position can easily be filled with sharp-shooter Max Strus. In addition to that, Kuminga can finally start at SF full time. On top of all of that, the Warriors are getting a competent bench PF in Georges Niang who is a career 40% shooter. Niang also brings a similar intensity to Draymond and would likely bring that energy off the bench. Overall, this is not a “home run” for GSW, but it most definitely improves the roster around Steph.

Onto the Cavs, their end of the deal is quite simple. They seem to be trending towards running it back with the same “core four” as last year (DG, Mitchell, Mobley, and Allen). Just like last offseason, they desperately need a 3 and D wing to start at SF and help tie the whole roster together. At his best, Wiggins was more than capable of that task. Look at what he did in the NBA Finals against Boston a few years back. If not for Wiggins, I’m not sure Golden State wins that championship. This trade also allows the Cavs to open up more minutes for guys like Okoro and Bates. I think Wiggins could just need a change of scenery. If that is the case, Cleveland is the perfect fit. It’s much more low-key than Golden State and the fit on the court couldn’t be better.

What do you all think? Let me know in the comments below! As always, thanks for your engagement!
