Why the Suns do this: The Suns are currently the 11th seed in the west as of 4/3/25 and are a game out of the play-in tournament. The big 3 of Booker, Durant, and Beal already seemed to fail. Phoenix notably got swept last year vs Minnesota and might not even make the play-in this year. The Suns also have 3 players making 49 million or more. Bradley Beal has had his worst year in his career this year only averaging 16.9 points. For the first time in his career he has been a 'bench' player with is interrupting the Sun's chances at contention. Beal is making 53 million then 57 million which the Suns clearly don't want to give him that as they've been shopping him for a while. In return the Suns get Lauri Markkanen who is a solid player and has proven himself the last couple for seasons. He is a tall and lengthy forward that the Suns could use. Markkanen's height, scoring ability, and offensive versatility fills in gaps in this underwhelming Suns team. The Suns also get a future 2nd round pick in trade which can be thrown in as a trade piece.

Why the Jazz do this: The Jazz currently have a 16-51 record and are last in the western conference and don't seem to be contending anytime soon. Bradley Beal can still be a very good player as we've seen his talent showcase in Washington. He could be a solid option on the offensive end as the Jazz have the 24th best offensive rating this season. The Jazz also get future draft capital in this deal to take on Beal's bad contract. Another perk in this deal is Markkanen's contract isn't much better as he still has 5 years on his but Beal only has 2 after this season. Utah still has money left over in this trade (around 9 million) to get a nice bench piece or a good rookie in this draft. Beal is also a good mentor for young guys like Keyonte George, Isiah Collier, and Cody Williams and Beal is known to be a vocal leader. Beal is a very explosive player bringing energy to the offensive side of the ball.

NEW LINEUPS:

SUNS- PG: Booker SG: Gillespie SF: Markkanen PF: Durant C: Richards JAZZ- PG: George SG: Sexton SF: Beal PF: Collins C: Kessler

Note: Utah still has players like Clarkson, Filipowski, Collier, and rookie Cody Williams 👀
