Why for Charlotte? They create the necessary cap space to lock Bridges up long-term. They move pick 13 this year, but they gain a cap friendly pick acquiring 31 from Indiana and a lottery protected first from Cleveland next year. Brissett is a solid depth player who isn't too dissimilar to Bridges (poor man's version) and could be easily retained or released if he doesn't continue to grow.

Why for Indiana? They acquire the additional lottery pick they covet by taking on the Hayward deal. They also add Washington, whose versatility allows for a nice 3 man frontcourt rotation of him, Jackson, and Smith. He's also closer in age to the rebuilding timetable of the core Indiana wants to build around.
