Why Rockets do this: The Rockets get an upgrade at the point guard position and they get a solid backup center as a part of the deal. Clarke is a very good defensive center and can get you 10 points per game and would be an upgrade over Jock Landale. Morant is obviously a top 15 player in this league when he is a good boy and would pair amazingly next to Jalen Green and Amen Thompson. In this scenario Houston loses in 5 in the WCF vs the Thunder and are a step away from the finals. In the deal they get a chunky contract in Konchar but he is a great team player, good playmaker, and he is good at rebounding as well. Sure they do have to give up Jabari Smith but they already have guys like Eason, Landale, Clarke (in this case), and Dillon Brooks. Whitmore hasn't gotten much playing time this year and VanFleet they were probably giving up on him soon anyway. This would make this team better than the Thunder IMO.
Why Grizzlies do this: Ja Morant has had a lot of issues off the court as of late and they are the 8th seed in the west and didn't even make the playoffs (yet). They also just fired there coach meaning they could go in a different direction. They get VanFleet on a long term contract for great value as he is only making $14 million on his final year. They get young player with a lot of potential in Cam Whitmore and Jabari Smith. They get a load of draft capital. Jabari Smith is a great scorer than could go great next to JJJ and Whitmore who would be a nice backup to Wells.
