Suns need to split Ayton into multiple players to fill out their roster. This trade gives them four useful role players on cheap deals for multiple years. It also clears some cap space as the Thunder can absorb most of Ayton’s contract. It gives the suns a few second round picks to work with as well. Additionally, they get two trade exemptions that they could possibly use with some of these second rounder to acquire someone else.

The Thunder desperately need a big man. Their offense isn’t catered towards a big man but they cannot allow Chet to come back and start guarding fives every night. Ayton can guard all the bigs and take that off Chet’s plate. They ultimately get a young former number one pick for four role players and four second round picks. They already have more picks than they can handle so this feels like a no brainer.
