The Knicks are a good team, but they aren't a contending team with their current roster. The Jazz are not a good team and they need draft capital and young assets to bolster their rebuild even more.

Why the Knicks do the deal: The knicks need to raise their ceiling to try to contend. Rj Barrett has shown flashes that he can be good and consistent but he always reverts back to being inconsistent at some point. Rj has potential but I don't think he can unlock it next to Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. Julius Randle and Rj Barrett are also not well fits next to each other, both are inconsistent and their confidence and body language slumps when they aren't playing good and they give up on plays. Rj can be a great defender when he locks in but he just isn't able to for a full season. Immanuel Quickley and the Knicks didn't come up with an extension on his deal so who knows where hell be after this off season, if a team with money to spend gives him a bag the knicks cant match, he leaves for nothing. Its better to be proactive than reactive. Clarkson will come in and be a great 6th man just like Quick and fill his role well. Lauri Markkanen is a pillar of efficiency averaging 23.7/8.7/1.1 on 48.4/38.3/84% shooting splits. He brings more size and shooting to this team as well and can play the small forward while being 7'0. Knicks also get rid of Fournier who's disgruntled.

Bench: Jordan Clarkson, Josh Hart, Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Hartenstein, Miles McBride, Jerico Sims

Why the Jazz do the deal: The Jazz get back Rj Barrett who is still only 23, he has a lot of untapped potential he could tap into if he had his own team. Quickley is a 24 year old guard who can lead a bench, shoot, defend and is a good rebounder for his size. These are great pieces to add to the Jazz young core. the Jazz also get 4 first round picks and a second to give them a ton more draft capital. Fournier can also be a veteran and log some minutes for Utah. This also opens up more minutes for the Jazz young players like Taylor Hendricks and Keyontae George.
