First trade:
Knicks get: Dejounte Murray & AJ Griffin
Hawks get: Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, 24 FRP via Dallas, 25' FRP via Milwaukee
Second trade:
Hawks get: Victor Oladipo, Jock Landale, 24 FRP via Brooklyn, 2RP via GSW
Rockets get: Clint Capella, Quentin Grimes, 24 FRP via Dallas
Why Knicks do it:
They get the best player while giving up a decent pick this year, a likely bad pick next year and a young player on the trade block. Maybe Grimes may be too much? But considering he's in the trade block (for whatever reason) his value has gone down. So while Grimes may turn out to be a great player, the idea that they may be actively shopping him, 9 times out of 10 means his value drops.
Healthy lineup:
Brunson/Murray/OG/Randle/Mitch
Flynn/Divincenzo/Hart/Griffin/Hartenstein
Why Hawks do it: They start their rebuild around Trae with what may be a very very good pick this year, while also shedding a ton of salary. Fournier, Jock and Oladipo are either free agents or have a team option next year. So not only do they go into the off season with a top pick that can be dangled in front of teams for a potential star that would go right into their cap space. Otherwise, they stick with the pick and build on Trae and Jalen Johnson.
Healthy lineup:
Trae/Bogdanovich/Hunter/Johnson/Okongwu
Mills/Fournier/Bey/Landale
Why Rockets do it:
They bolster their bench with a vet big man rim protector and a potential lights out shooter. Yes they move back in the draft, but as a Houston fan. I see a lot of overlap with their young talent at the top of the draft, so moving back for a potential backup might be the way to go (and given their record at drafting in that area they might just get a steal anyway).
Healthy lineup:
FVV/Jalen/Brooks/Jabari/Sengun
Amen/Grimes/Slam Whitmore/Tari/Capella
