Spurs- Tre Jones and Kelton Johnson are out of place in San Antonio with Stephon Castle, CP3, and Harrison Barnes incoming. MPJ gives them a core piece for the future as he is still young. He adds three point shooting, rebounding, and defense around Wemby while also not requiring much of the ball so the other players such as Castle and Sochan can develop into core players around Wemby as well. The draft capital won’t even make a dent in the Spurs draft reserves and Denver would sell MPJ for cheaper considering how desperate they are for depth.
Nuggets- MPJ has been a constant disappointment in the playoffs and with the loss of KCP and an unproven bench, the Nuggets need depth. Keldon Johnson can slot into the starting lineup while Jones can provide valuable minutes backing up Jamal Murray or playing alongside him. This really gives the Nuggets a true PG they can play and trust to handle the ball in late game situations when Jokic is being double teamed and Murray is struggling like in this year’s playoffs. Johnson and Jones are also decent three point shooters so they would help the Nuggets who finished in the bottom in three point percentage this past year.
