Grizzlies land Filler Trey Lyles along with Chris Duarte and Kessler Edwards with a 2nd for a package of Derrick Rose and Luke Kennard. The trade helps both sides. The Kings now have an above average bench SG/SF in Kennard who shoots the 3 ball above average. They also get Derrick Rose who is non existent on a rebuilding Grizzlies team. Rose won’t have a huge role in Sacramento. But at the least he can provide vet service to a young backcourt lineup.
The Grizzlies trade off 2 older pieces and start the retool process. In the deal they grab Trey Lyles along with 2 younger players in Edwards and Duarte. Lyles is almost a 50/50 swap with Kennard. Lyles will get minutes off the bench. Whether that means he is bought out by Memphis or not. Memphis also receive Duarte who can provide solid production in his minimal PT given. Edwards will most likely head to the G League where he can develop his game more. Edwards will have to work for a role in Memphis, but he can certainly get minutes with an injury deranged team in Memphis. The most important piece in Memphis’ return though is probably the unprotected 2nd in return. Yes a 2nd isn’t crazy value, but for a retooling team it gives Memphis a shot in the dark at a potential hit in the draft.
