They had a phenomenal season and proved everyone they are just one step away from a championship and a guy of Ayton's caliber can be the missing piece in the jig saw puzzle of a championship for Grizzlies.Yes they will have to part ways with Clarke but that is definitely worth it because its non other than Ayton

Why Suns do this?

There are only a handful of teams who can trade for Ayton with their cap situation since it is a sign and trade. Unless they accept one they won't be able to negotiate much and ask for more cuz they are likely to end up Ayton being signed by another team in FA giving them nothing. But the offer here has alot of upside for them. They get a direct replacement of Ayton in the form of Steven Adams although of not the same calibre he is one of the finest centers in the league who can do the rebounding and screening at an elite level. Brandon Clarke can blossom in phoenix. They are also topped with a FRP
