Presuming the Pistons take Cunningham, they’ll able to start a 2020 or 2021 first rounder at 4 positions: K Hayes, Cunningham, Bey and Stewart. The only oddball amongst what would be a very promising young lineup is Jerami Grant, who played at an All-Star level. Perhaps the young Pistons charge into the playoffs early, but if not, Grant could use a change of scenery.

Meanwhile, the Lakers could frankly use shooting. They don’t really have the cap space to add a lot, and won’t have any if they bring back Drummond, Schroeder and Caruso. They also have a malcontent player in Kyle Kuzma.

Enter the Kings.

Sacramento wants to make the playoffs, and it’s probably not happening without another star. Meanwhile, they have their own two malcontents in Marvin Bagley and Buddy Hield. And if that’s it enough, one of their best players, Richaun Holmes, is likely to leave unless the Kings can open up some cap space.

The Kings sacrifice Buddy Hield, one of the best volume in the league, to the Lakers for the 22nd pick and Kuzma. They then send Kuzma, Bagley, and the 9th for Grant. The Kings get a two-way star in Grant, who in addition to becoming the Kings #2 option likely becomes their best defensive starter; boy, do the Kings need players who play defense. The Kings ALSO get the cap space needed to re-sign Holmes to an appropriate contract for a high-level nonstarter center. This doesn’t guarantee the Kings a playoff shot, but it certainly increases their chances significantly.

The Pistons, meanwhile, get a top-10 pick and two interesting reclamation projects in Kuzma and Bagley. For the pick, the Pistons have a chance to pick up potential stars like Jalen Johnson or Keon Johnson, or grab likely high-level supporting players like Moses Moody or Franz Wagner. As for Kuzma and Bagley, no one doubts that they can score in bunches. They’ve just struggled with injuries, all-around development, and bad fit. Detroit could give both players a shot to become the stars, or at least offensive sparks, they have the talent to be.

Throw in the Lakers getting Hield, who’d feast on the space created by James and Davis, and that’s three happy teams.
