The Knicks and Jazz swap a fantastic pick package (3 consecutive firsts plus 2 swaps) along with Randle and two young rotation players in exchange for Donovan Mitchell.

NYK: The Knicks would need to believe that (i) Mitchell is the superstar they need to lead this young core to contention and (ii) the remaining young pieces are capable of being major contributors. Mitchell brings the ability to be a lead playmaker while RJ would slot into a more comfortable “second fiddle” role and become the lead perimeter defender. In order to add Spida without trading RJ, IQ, or Obi, the Knicks would need to part with an unprecedented pick package. Trading 3 first plus two swaps would exceed what was offered for both Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday. However, the Knicks could absorb this cost due to their trove of 2nd round picks and limited rotation space.

UTA: If the Jazz are forced to break up Mitchell and Gobert and don’t believe the west is winnable with just one star, it may make sense to maximize what they’ll get, which this trade might do. This deal brings back a potential All Star at a low point in his value in addition to two rookie-contract rotation players and a boatload of picks. Regarding roster fit, Grimes and Reddish should be big upgrades to Utah's perimeter defense while Randle is a cheap bet to replace some of Spida’s offensive output as an initiator and PnR ball handler.
