The best landing spots for Victor Wembanyama

Unless your have been living under a rock for the last couple of months, you have definitely heard of Victor Wembanyama. He has become one of the most hyped up prospects in NBA history. The way he plays makes no sense at all. He is 7”4 but plays like a wing at times with his shooting and mobility. It’s safe to say that every single NBA team would love to add Wembanyama to their roster. Where would he fit best though? What team would put him in the best position to succeed in the NBA? That is the question I have asked myself. Victor Wembanyama will certainly succeed anywhere he goes, but there are a couple of teams that I believe would put him in a better position to succeed than others. Here are those teams.

The first team, and the team where I hope Victor Wembanyama ends up on, is the New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans is not bad enough to be in a position to get Victor, but the Lakers certainly are. The Pelicans own the Lakers pick this year, and it is looking like another year of missing the playoffs for LA. So while the Pelicans are likely going to be a playoff team, they will still be in the race for Victor with the Lakers pick. It would be unfair if Victor ends up on the Pelicans, because that team might be the best in the NBA. I cannot imagine a better trio than Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Victor Wembanyama. Zion will have all the space he needs to drive to the rim and score around the basket like he does so well. Brandon Ingram and Victor Wembanyama will be huge threats around the perimeter and in midrange. Those three players are great all on their own, but on the same team? Unstoppable.

Utah would be an interesting landing spot for Victor. They don’t have nearly as much talent as the Pelicans do, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing when it comes to drafting Victor Wembanyama. Victor would have more touches on the Jazz than he would on the Pelicans, which gives him a bigger chance to be a great player right away. The Center situation in Utah is not very good right now, so Victor won’t have any competition whatsoever for minutes. He would become the star right away in Utah.

Indiana is a super interesting landing spot for Victor. They already have a good young core that they are building around, and adding Victor might give them the best young core in the league. The Tyrese Haliburton—Victor Wembanyama duo is super interesting to me. Tyrese has looked like a star player this year with his scoring and Playmaking. Giving him a Center like Victor to work with could boost his game even more. For Victor himself, he fits right in to Indiana lineup. Myles Turners future with the Pacers is foggy. There is no guarantee that he will be on the team by the end of the year, and even if he still is he could leave in free agency. Victor would give Indiana security at the Center position incase Myles Turner does leave. If Turner stays in Indiana, then there could be an interesting starting lineup where Victor could be playing a lot of power forward next to Myles Turner. There are a lot of different ways it could play out, but Victor in Indiana makes a lot of sense.

Detroit is the wildcard landing spot for Victor, not because it is a long shot for Detroit to get Victor but because he is such an intriguing fit with the Pistons. I thought a trio of Ingram, Zion, and Victor was interesting, but a trio of Ivey, Cade, and Victor would be even more interesting. Ivey is a super athletic guard who can score around the rim with ease. Cade is a good scorer from anywhere on the court and plays the game at his own pace. Victor Wembanyama is a tall, lengthy center who can score from anywhere on the court and is elite defensively. It shouldn’t make sense, but it does in a way. All three of those players are different types of threats on offense, and it would be a nightmare for opposing teams to gameplan against.

There are a lot of different places that would be a good landing spot for Victor. These are the ones that have piqued my interest. Some other teams that would be interesting with Victor Wembanyama are the Houston Rockets (He would be an excellent fit fit Jabari Smith Jr in the frontcourt), Orlando Magic (just for the sake of them having the tallest basketball lineup known to mankind), OKC (Chet and Victor are a funky fit, but I really like Victors fit with Shai), Charlotte (LaMelo and Victor would be a super fun duo), and San Antonio (Victor would have the best opportunity to be a star right away in San Antonio). No matter what though, Victor Wembanyama is an exciting prospect and has a bright future in the NBA, no matter what jersey he ends up wearing on opening night.
