Following the trade deadline and some things clearing up regarding some team's futures (ie: Phoenix wanting to shop KD the offseason) I wanted to give my take on what I think each team will want to do.
Chicago jumps to #1 from #8, winning the race for Cooper Flagg. I think this should be the signal for them to truly start the rebuild. Shop all their pieces, keep Lonzo as a mentor and pace setting guy. Go get Boozer, or Dybantsta next year. Chicago you have too far to go to waste Cooper Flagg's developmental years on .400 basketball.
I think the steal of the draft here is Washington falling to 5 but still get the best pure bucket getter in the class. Houston jumping up to 4 lands them a new primary or secondary ball handler, depending if Amen moves into the primary ball handler next season. Kasparas fits great into their rotation and compliments their weaknesses nicely.
The biggest loser in most mocks is going to be Brooklyn, they don't have any identity at the moment and landing at 9 doesn't get them any closer to that. Asa and Claxton would be their spin on AD/Gafford, Asa being a total athletic freak at his length while also having a developing perimeter game. All-NBA upside but will never be face of the franchise or an identity building piece. I like that they are able to get two premier defenders in Hugo and Rasheer. I worry about primary ball handling for them with Boogie's injury and DLo not being a long term piece.
I think three more teams getting "their guys," Orlando, Charlotte, and Atlanta. Orlando is a couple pieces away but they have the time to develop Egor and try to unlock some defense and shot-making tools while also getting their high motor 4 years in college white guy to come off the bench.
Charlotte desperately needs players to care about defensive effort and just antagonize on and off the ball. VJ offers some great cutting, shot-making, and connective passing as well. He's developing his perimeter game as well, and fits better with the vision of the organization than a guy like Ace despite being almost the unanimous #3 guy.
