Seems fair

Based on reporting in the athletic, the wizards are seeking multiple second round picks in a hypothetical Tyus Jones trade. If Minnesota is willing to go into the luxury tax, they can pull off this trade without trading Kyle Anderson or even Troy Brown jr.

Here’s where I make the sell…. Minnesota can put together a trade package comprised of the player who was the Timberwolves’ 2022 first round pick, Wendell Moore jr.; super bouncy 2nd year player, Josh Minott, who provides lots of athleticism & defensive versatility/upside; & 27-year-old wing, Shake Milton, who as recently as last season in Philadelphia, was a valuable contributor (he’s a career .358% three point shooter & hit nearly 38% of those shots last season), but has really underperformed this season in Minnesota (shooting an abysmal 26% from three).

In addition to those three aforementioned players, Minnesota attaches two future 2nd round picks & the 2024 second round pick they received from the Lakers in last trade deadline’s DLo trade (via either the grizzlies or wizards, the least favorable of either of those two picks). Considering the record of both the grizzlies & wizards, there’s a pretty good chance that that the pick will come shortly after Minnesota, who as of today are slotted to have the 29th pick in the first round…. Which makes that 2nd round pick almost as valuable as the Wolves’ own 1st round pick (which obviously they can’t trade because of the Stepien rule.)

So here’s the rub, Minnesota receives an ideal backup point guard to Mike Conley (who conceivably could be his future replacement as a starter as early as next season). In return for Tyus Jones, the wizards receive their (reportedly) desired multiple second round picks and two somewhat promising young players as well as a 27-year-old veteran, who up until this season was a valuable bench contributor.

Seems fair to me, especially when you consider that Jones is playing on an expiring contract. so I guess it really all comes down to whether or not the wizards receive better offers than what I’ve proposed here… which they very well might & probably will.

Fingers crossed!
