Bit of a weird trade at first glance, I know, but I think this works out great for both sides.
Charlotte get the all-star-capable center they haven’t had for decades in 3x DPoY, Rudy Gobert, who’s locked up on a 4 year deal. Rudy when giving 100% would provide Charlotte with elite rebounding, elite paint defense and a high percentage paint scorer that could be a lob threat for Lamelo.
Wolves would likely play Rozier and Oubre off the bench. Although he is struggling this season, Rozier could be exactly what the wolves were expecting from Nowell this season and more. When Rozier finds his rhythm, he’s an elite 3-level scorer, solid playmaker and decent defender. We could see a closing lineup consisting of Russell, Rozier, Edwards, McDaniels/Anderson and Towns, a solid offensive and defensive mix. Oubre’s 3 and D skill set would serve as an upgrade over Taurean Prince who has struggled to stay healthy so far this season. As he’s on the last year of his deal, if the wolves aren’t in love with Oubres performance, they can let him go and use the cap space free’d up to explore other options.
Now I know this still doesn’t solve the wolves main issue (rebounding) and I know it re-opens another issue (paint defense) but it does help us recover from the Gobert trade and opens us up to explore better fits in the upcoming offseason.
