1. Los Angeles Lakers trade D'Angelo Russel, Rui Hachimura, Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2029 FRP via LAL for Demar Derozan and Alex Caruso

Prioritizing depth over the star helped Los Angeles propel themselves to an NBA championship within the Orlando Bubble in 2020. This go-around, acquiring DeRozan plus arguably the Bulls’ best asset (Caruso is a fantastic two-way defender who every contender will inquire about) would allow them to stay within striking distance of a deep postseason run once more. With DeRozan’s value not expected to be high on the open market, Chicago adding Caruso would bring plenty of suitors to the table between now and February. Putting both together in packages could net Chicago draft capital on top of promising rotational players.

The Hawks were historically mediocre last season and fittingly open to an offseason shakeup.

Siakam would give this roster its third star, and while his arrival may have blocked the ascension of Jalen Johnson, this trade would cleared the runway for Onyeka Okongwu to take flight. A frontcourt rotation featuring all four of these players would've given Atlanta more offensive firepower and more flexibility on defense.

The Raptors, meanwhile, would have actually picked a direction for their organization and brightened their future at the expense of what's already a pretty underwhelming present. Supplementing Barnes with Bufkin, Hunter, Dick, OG and incoming draft picks, the Raptors would find themselves in a nice situation.

Atlanta is currently 23rd in points per 100 possessions allowed and 25th in effective field goal percentage allowed. That is not going to be good enough to get it done in the playoffs against elite teams.
