Petrusev is a really solid stretch 5, but not quite at the levels of other potential stretch 5s in this class. He was going up against really weak competition, but still stayed fairly grounded to his approach; lots of face up, lots of pick and pops. That, to me, severely limits his potential. His defense is and has never been anything special, and his jump shot won’t be insane or anything. Good player due to what he’s got, but can't see a ton of development coming.

Comparison: Mike Muscala

Ceiling: Myles turner with - defense Floor: Old man Sam Perkins

Filip Petrusev is an interesting prospect. He''s rather old but has dominated in college and an overseas league. He can space the floor and is a modern big who can handle. I like his scoring potential, but I don''t trust his defense and rim protecting. He relies more on positioning to block shots, limiting his potential to rebound. A modern big who dominating a professional league deserves at least a second round look, at worst.

Projected draft range: 30-45

Offense

  • Refined at creating space in the post.

  • Nice finisher and can straight line attack a bit.

  • Nice little short range stroke, rarely used but could be a big Z type weapon.

  • Good touch passing. Sees the floor with his head up and open eyes. Sound reads.

  • Very nice touch on the perimeter as a shooter, huge improvement, needs time still and release is slow. Floor Spacing 5.

  • PNP threat.

Defense

  • Probably just an average rebounder and shot blocker at the next level.

  • Won't rebound a ton out of his zone. Not particularly strong on the defensive end and won't be able to handle guards on a switch.

Swing Factors Role

Plays and moves similar to Nikola Vucevic. He has gained some muscle, but a little more would not hurt his rising stock. He is an older prospect. Imagine if he actually stayed another year and played again on currently #1 Gonzaga... yikes! He has improved his long range shooting accuracy and has really progressed from a year ago when he would have likely been picked in the back end of the draft had he declared. While he gained some muscle, he still moves as fluent as he did before.

I don''t have the best sample size for him so I don''t know an advance evaluation, but he reminds me of a skinny Capela. Could be a legit Center with good development (still needs more viewing)
