One of my favorite players to watch in the draft. His defense for a guy that small is pretty otherworldly, and he really knows how to control the pace of a team. However, there are a few holes. First, his size. Only 6’0 on a good day. Second, hes a 4 year pro. Third, he’s not an elite playmaker for his team, so he’s very much a shooting guard trapped in a small point guards body. Finally, I’m not sure much, if any, of the scoring game translates. I love the defense and hustle, but it’ll be tricky to pull it all together

Alvarado I think can be a two-way point guard who can defend the perimeter. Though just 6 feet, he can steal the ball and actually recorded a couple blocks in the G League Elite Camp.He is a nice passer on the offensive end and is a nice leader on the court I know the fact he is undersized limits the potential to truly be a defensive force, but we have seen guys like Chris Paul succeed while being undersized and I think Alvarado can do the same thing.

Projected draft range: 55-undrafted

Height 6'0 Weight 180 lbs Wingspan Unknown

Offense

  • A good shooter with a workable stroke, nice easy fluid and fairly quick.

  • A fairly reliable C&S threat.

  • Very good as a ball handler in transition.

  • Smart cutter to the basket.

  • Great in ISO situations.

  • Good not great passer who takes care of the basketball. 4.1 AST to 2 TO per game.

Defense

  • ACC DPOY - 2.8 STL per game.

  • Lacks length to effect shooters on closeouts.

  • Size is an issue for him getting around screens.

  • May be an overall turnover creator, but NBA size will not favor his defense.

Swing Factors

  • Continued turnover machine - Needs to wreak havoc defensively leading to extra easy scoring offensive possessions.

  • Initiator - As an initiator he needs to improve his passing work and continue on his low turnover rate.

Role

  • A quick point guard who hits triples, leads transitions, and causes turnovers.

  • LOW: After some time in the G-League he goes overseas to be a team's lead guard.

  • HIGH: Establishes himself in the middle/back part of a rotation as a known turnover creator and leader of fastbreaks, Alvarado shines in these roles and hits perimeter shots when called upon to do so.

This is Adrian Griffin Jr.

Adrian Griffin Jr is amazingly athletic. He has a 7 foot wingspan though he is just 6’6. He’s younger than most players in this draft class which means more room to grow. He is also a really good shooter. Because his dad played in the NBA, Griffin learned all about the game growing up and has serious defensive upside. He also has great basketball IQ.

Comparison: Jimmy Butler

Draft Range: top 10

Bold Verdict: Near All-Star
