Next in line is the big man of these shooters in the second round and undrafted. He has a really wonky looking jumpshot, but what can I say? It goes in at a pretty consistent rate. He’s solid as a post scorer, which I could see translating because he’ll most likely be operating in a bench role, and that bench role could give him some creative freedom. Now, he can’t defend, and he can’t pass, and he’s not really an athlete. Anyone drafting him should know what they have right away.

Comparison: Bjelicia

Ceiling: Houston Ryan Anderson Floor: Georges Niang lite

Matthew Hurt is a 6-9 forward who can score the ball. That''s literally all he can do. He''s inconsistent scoring, and he has horrid defense, especially along the interior. If he wants to play power forward, he will have to rebound and defend better. A John Collins type but really worse at most things and less consistent scoring the ball, but still a 3-level scorer.

Projected draft range: 45-undrafted

6''9 with a 6''9 wingspan. Great looking shooter 56/46/70 splits. 46% 3 on high volume 6.5 att per 40. Wills his way to the hoop without beating people with athleticism. Very good finishing and body control without playing above the rim. Really good mid range game, very comfortable in that area. Decent rebounder, 8 per 40. Defensively outmatched at the NBA level judging by his foot speed. Brings some very intriguing shooting skills and efficiency at the offensive end, may latch on to a reserve role scoring.

Positives

-Great shooter, will have value as a floor stretching big, has a high and fairly quick release point without a dip, making it hard to contest the shots, can make them on spot-ups or off movement, potential in the pick and pop

-One of the best post-up bigs in CBB last season, has a Dirk-like fadeaway and loves facing up and hitting jumpers from the elbow or top of the key, has the ability to punish mismatches in the post

-Solid finisher at the rim, finds space to get to his right hand and score, can attack closeouts and get all the way to the rim

Negatives

-Just a really bad perimeter defender, not low effort but very laterally slow, will get blown by easily on closeouts or switches

-Not a good defensive presence inside either, might be too slow to guard 4s but also not strong or tall enough to guard 5s, questionable fit in any rotation if this isn't resolved, doesn't offer rim protection

-Didn't make a lot of right reads at Duke, preferred to shoot out of doubles instead of pass, didn't see much short roll creation, mostly just a scorer

Likely range: 35-60/UDFA

Matthew Hurt is a solid, efficient offensive player. His lack of defense, however makes him a fringe prospect. And the fact that Duke ain''t all that this year doesn''t help his case.
