Mike Miles- TCU (PG/SG) Age: 20.8 6’2 205 (Colin Sexton)

Mike Miles is a downhill player always looking to attack the rim and put pressure on the other team. He is quick with his moves and is not afraid of contact. His perimeter shooting does have its inconsistencies; it is unclear if he can play point guard at the next level which would make him a very small two guard. His playmaking skills for others is subpar. Despite a lack of size Miles battles on defense fighting through screens and isn’t afraid to contrast a shot. He will have a tough time switching though due to his lack of size.

When watching Mike Miles Jr. and projecting him at the next level, he just looks like he would be the most steady point guard here. He saw an uptick in close to every scoring statistic: field goal percentage (50%), points per game (18 ppg), three-point percentage (35%), while also being in the 93rd percentile on spot-ups and 86th percentile on catch-and-shoots. His three-point percentage was the most notable improvement; not only did his three-point percentage go up by seven percent from the previous season, he went ahead and shot 42% on spot-up threes, 41% on catch-and-shoot threes, and 46% on unguarded catch-and-shoot threes, displaying a great display of off-ball offensive engagement. Even with those improvements, he was still a threat as a pick-and-roll shooter, shooting 35% on threes off of pick-and-rolls. He has this sneaky athleticism around the basket I found to be impressive; just being as fearless and as strong and coordinated as he is at the basket, where he shot 67% of his shots at the rim (on 125 total attempts). His assist numbers are not an amazing indication of what his playmaking could look like at the next level, but it is getting overlooked. His ability to react quickly and accurately to the tag-man in pick-and-roll situations was excellent. In any pick-and-roll situation, he can make so many passes, from skips and outlets to whips and pocket passes. I truly think it is so under-appreciated by pundits, and I think he could be just great as a playmaker. I liked his defensive effort on the ball, but there is no doubt that is 6'1" frame and 6'1" wingspan is concerning on that end, with anyone being able to shoot over the top of him. I liked how he utilized his quickness and athleticism to remain engaged as a team defender, making the right rotations and becoming smaller to sneak into passing lanes and easy steals. Mike Miles Jr. is unique in his physique, and it might be what makes him become an undrafted player, but I have a lot of faith in him developing, and if he does become undrafted, he should be a priority pick-up on a two-way contract.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of Devonte' Graham and Tyus Jones

  • Projected Draft Position: Pick 50-Priority UDFA

  • Best Fits: Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets

Bit of a smaller frame Pure shooting form, so mechanically pure Hustle player, takes advantage of opponent mistakes Very crafty defender, mobile hands Just a winning player, makes those plays that benefit and impact the outlook of the game Tested terribly at the combine (measurables), not his game though Talented handler, moves smoothly through the court Creative passer who gets the ball where it needs to be Unlimited range, can be electric from deep Athletic finisher, adjusts swiftly mid-air Threat in transition, likes to move the ball down the court Does exactly what he’s assigned/what he needs to do in order to win, whether that be scoring one day or being more of a floor general the next. Impressive role definition and understanding of the game. Has some real shooting flashes, makes both C&S looks and tougher, contested, and imbalance shots Bit of an older, more college-experienced/adjusted player (Not necessarily a good thing) Impressive space creation, uses strong power moves Intelligent and crafty cutter Always seems to make an impact on the game Has some surprising weight on his body, built sturdy and tough - helps against contact See him as a bench playmaker for an NBA team, can come into game and make a small, yet effective impact Size limits his game (defense, rebounding, versatility, getting his shot off in the lane) Physical frame helps him power himself to open, 10-ft. Shots Unimpressive wingspan that holds him back from impactful defensive play Just gets dominated by stronger, longer and/or quicker players Seeks revenge - we see this in his play in big games, down by big Tremendous ball-handling feel with both hands Awareness is so astounding, knows exactly where the open man is Tremendous speed and acceleration, gets coast-to-coast so quickly and easily, just blows by slower-footed defenders Shuts up crowd, stays so calm and methodical, competitive under pressure So shifty left-to-right, incredibly unpredictable Insane threat in transition, can’t stop him once he’s in a groove Impressive ability to needle-thread, find open cutters Taught and trained at TCU to get out and run Can be lackadaisical on defense, lack focus, simply put hands up Tremendous touch in the lane Understands the tendencies and flow of the game Quick vision and reads are so impressive Sometimes has a bit of a loose grasp on the ball, allows for strips Reminds of a Tyus Jones, smaller, competitive guard Looked uncomfortable in Combine scrimmages Needs to use his body more often on defense, tends to reach, physical tools + carelessness makes a concerningly rough defender, especially at the next level Ridiculously atrocious 6’,0” wingspan, less than terrible-for-a-guard height

Tier 5: Rotation piece (5th, 6th, 7th men of a middle team or end of the bench of a contender)

6'2 ball handler with high motor, great assists skills and very good for finishing at the rim. Needs to improve the shooting though. One of college basketball’s most productive guards. What Miles lacks in 3-point volume, he makes up for with fearlessness driving the lane and impressive finishing ability for a 6-foot-1 guard.

Best fit team : Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat.

Best Rank : 47. Lowest Rank : 58. Final Rank : 51.

Rank in the 2023 official NBA draft : Undrafted (two-way with the Mavs).

Strengths: Good passer especially in pnr, has a lot of playmaking upside, has potential to be a good point of attack defender, has 3 point catch and shoot upside to an extent

Weaknesses: 3 point shot isn’t there right now fully, doesn’t gave much self creation as well, needs to work on his touch and overall in between game mainly his floater.
