STRENGTHS:
Another strong scoring guard who knows how to move defenders out of the way and get buckets at the basket; he absorbs contact well, has great touch and used finishing as his primary scoring option, whether he was on the break or in transition
A lot of his scoring came from backdoor cuts; King had an incredible ability to sense when the defense was collapsing towards a ball-handler and knew how to take advantage of ball-watchers
His jump shot looks relatively smooth; King had good off-ball tape, being able to come off of screens, pin downs and curls and get into his jumper, but he has a preference of driving to the basket
He was a high effort guy on the defensive end this past season; his 6'8" wingspan at 6'4" was fine and could be good at the next level, but showing effort around screens and recovering to his man was a nice trait that I saw
WEAKNESSES:
He really lacks strength; we can see it in his off-ball movements on offense, where he gets pushed around a lot, and we can see it on defense, where he gets knocked off his spots easily
Because of his lack of strength on defense, all of his high motor effort and energy does not pay off because of how he finishes defensive possessions; that needs to get better
King does not have much offensive versatility; he is a fine shooter with fine form and great off the ball, but he is not a guy who can be relied on to create shots for himself or for others; he was not creative with how he went about his passes and his dribble attack combination
The lack of creation, to me, is contributed to his slow feet on offense; he does not have burst at all, and that could be seen as a ball-handler, and as a recovery defender
OUTLOOK: Mojave King will enter the league immediately as an off-ball weapon. He excels off of multiple actions and works as a great cutter. You can always count on King to be a high effort, high motor player on both ends of the floor. He has athletic deficiencies, jump shot hiccups to fix, and extreme lack of strength is what makes him a legit project. How he will get acclimated to the NBA strength and athleticism while working on his own, it will be a challenge. His off-ball game is attractive, and could be worth a swing if you just need to replenish your team with a development piece like King.
