Dude doesn’t get enough credit, or I’m just fixated with win-now type players. Either way, dude can ball. His defense and shooting took a huge step up this season. He can guard 2-4 at a pretty high level, and his three point making, even as a movement shooter is very impressive. Best player on one of the best teams and will def translate, just don’t ask him to create his own shot.

Comparison: Trevor Ariza

Ceiling: Spurs Danny Green

Floor: Lakers Danny Green

Quentin Grimes is a nice 3&D wing with a nice frame. He''s inconsistent with his three and defending, but he shows some promise as a facilitator when he has the ball in his hands. He can guard multiple positions and excels at making shots off motion plays. He knocked down more than 100 threes for Houston this season, and showed the fact he can help teams such as the 76ers he'll their stars by acquiring role players who can knock down shots from the outside.

Projected draft range: 25-45

RANK

Height 6'5 Wingspan 6'8

Offense

  • A 3pt volume shooter, A whopping 10+ 3PA per 40. Nice mechanics, high rise. Shot looks sustainable at any level.

  • Will pull a trey in virtually any situation. Better off the dribble.

  • Ineffective inside the arc. Needs to improve his midrange off dribble jumper, it could be a highly useful skill down the road because his form and ability to separate are a plus.

  • Poor driving skills, not especially comfortable.

  • Handles are primitive, no evidence of combo moves.

  • 2 Offensive Rebounds per 40. Should occasionally create an extra possession.

Defense

  • Good active hands and awareness of passing lanes. 1.7 STL per 40.

  • Shows positive upside as an individual and team defender. Lateral quickness to rotate and defend multiple positions. Solid in rotations and coming over from weak side.

  • Keeps his man in front often forcing a quick pass or a bad shot that he is able to contest with proper usage of closeouts.

  • Above average rebounder for his size.

Swing Factors

  • Is he a good or great defender?

  • Can he create dribble separation in his 3pt shooting?

Role

  • A 3 & D wing with the potential to get his own shot from deep.

LOW

  • An out of the rotation wing lost in the shuffle of lengthier, more skilled, athletic options. Not flashing any outstanding traits, he provides some 3pt shooting and adequate perimeter defense.

HIGH

  • A 3 & D wing in the top 6 or 7 of a rotation, possessing outstanding defensive traits and clamps on the perimeter. Offensively he has excellent 3pt%s and the ability to get his jumper off with very limited space.

Positives

-A way improved shooter since HS and his first 2 years in college, made 40% on VERY high volume, quick enough shot, best off the catch/handoffs/screens, can make some pull-ups in rhythm with a runway

-Good defender, solid at staying in front of his man and contests shots great, takes bumps and absorbs contact with his strong torso

-Great rebounder for his position, often came up as the tallest guy in the crowd, got a bunch of layups on the offensive glass as well

-Has a bit more extra than just 3 and D, can attack a strong closeout and looked like a better passer at the Combine

Negatives

-Not a great athlete, plays pretty stiff, not a lot of shake to create space

-Still questions about his overall shot making, 1. had absolutely no in-between game, floaters and mid range jumpers were off, 2. didn't shoot great from deep, closer to NBA 3 point range, hard worker but probably still has work to do expanding his range

-Likely not a PnR ball handler, loose handle, not the greatest passer, probably more of a shooter role

Likely range: 25-40

Quentin Grimes was a big name as the season began, and he went off to a slow start. But once he got going he really got going and helped lead a tough Houston team to the tournament as a 2 seed.

Gutsy player who hits big-time shots, crashes the boards, and hustles on defense.

PLUSES

Good 3-point shooter with a quick release and the ability to make contested shots. Also displays a savvy ability for getting open on the perimeter.

Flashes upside to create room off the dribble and hit 3-point jumpers, either using a screen or out of an isolation. There’s no question about his ability to do it off simpler actions, like a side dribble when a defender closes out.

Strong-bodied defender with a high motor and excellent fundamentals. He anticipates action and moves his feet well. He could become an on-ball stopper.

MINUSES

Doesn’t create much separation off the dribble due to his rigid ballhandling.

Lacks passing feel and skill, often appearing rushed when pressured.

In-between game needs improvement if he’s going to be more than a shooter and slasher on offense. Struggles to get into pull-up jumpers or floaters.

Player Comp= Khris Middleton, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Josh Hart
