A dude that could go a lot higher up if a squad falls in love with him. He’s a big scoring forward, lacking defense and a great three point shot, but can still put the ball in the basket. He stands to lose some weight, but he was a great second fiddle for Cam Thomas. If he pans out, he’s most likely a scoring threat off the bench. He knows where to be on defense, but needs some development.

Comparison: Jabari Parker

Ceiling: Last of year of New York Carmelo Anthony

Floor: Michael Beasley

Trendon Watford was a great running mate for Cameron Thomas at LSU. The 6-9 power forward can score in the interior, averaging 14 points per game in college.Though not the best, Watford shows some stretch big potential. Like many LSU players, he''s really a good rebounder, particularly on the offensive glass. He struggled offensively in their combine making a few bad passes and was a bit hesitant when things weren't clicking for him. Hopefully he will put that bad game behind him, because he may have hurt his stock.

Projected draft range: 50-undrafted

Height 6'9 Weight 240 lbs Wingspan 7'2

Offense

  • Potential point forward skills.

  • Versatility for his size.

  • Based on size one would think power-forward/center in modern NBA, but the tape shows some awe inspiring handle.

  • Euro-steps, hesis, shiftiness, misdirection, pump fakes for transition finishing, slow drives, pull ups, and playmaking.

  • Changes speeds really well. Unique like an agile cargo van.

  • Playmaking ability is very intriguing in transition, PNR, and out of post. The vision is there.

  • P&R ball handling is savvy, can get to the cup with his right or counter.

  • PNP potential

  • Shooting stroke was 29 3p% & 66 FT% in two years. Needs to expand his range.

  • Slow and flat shooting stroke.

  • Not a shot creator, doesn't get enough space.

  • 6.3 FTA per 40. Adept at drawing and absorbing contact.

  • Great footwork on the attack or inside.

  • Great IQ off-ball as a cutter.

Defense

  • Not a good lateral mover. Can't contain the perimeter.

  • Pretty terrible defensive habits- caught in no mans land too often, lets guys shoot, doesn't read help defense situations, ball watches.

  • Average rebounder.

Swing Factors

  • Shooting consistency - Absolutely instrumental in his potential. If he can nail deep jumpers all of the sudden he's a threat in PNP and PNR as both an initiator and shooter.

  • Defensive Awareness/habits - Although being a positive perimeter defender seems farfetched, his defensive value returning to a neutral level would go a long way by him cleaning up poor habits, and communicating.

Role

  • An offensive oriented versatile point-forward who creates for others, and finds ways to score in the way of a rumbling truck on backroads.

  • LOW: Watford's defense is terrible, he doesn't expand his range and he goes overseas to utilize his offensive weapons.

  • HIGH: Watford is a rare breed point-forward who gets to the cup, facilitates in unique ways and excels in transition. His shooting stroke progresses allowing him to be a great PNP/PNR weapon either as a ball handler, roll man or popper. Defensively Watford cleans up his act and holds his own against most bigs. A team finds Watford so useful that he becomes a focal point of the offensive structure as a 6th man/starter.

Good all around 2 way player who can do a little bit of everything. Trendon Watford. Has struggled a little, but turned it around of late. He played really well in the SEC tournament, especially in the championship one point loss to Alabama where he scored 30 points.
