Thoughts on the Rozier trade

Before I dive into the dynamic Scary Terry can bring to our roster ... Man, I have to clap it up for Kyle Terrell Lowry, in spite of the criticism he faced from Heat fans during his tenure. Yes, he came to Miami just a few years late. Yes, his hefty contract became a burden. Yes, he was far from the most explosive scoring point guard. But if you want to talk about a winning player, look no further than this man. The way he took charges, communicated on defense, guarded several positions fearlessly, made timely shots, and controlled the tempo was so valuable towards our championship pursuits. He took whatever role asked of him, mentored Gabe Vincent, and was another savvy, tough, gritty, Heat culture role player. I hope he goes back to Toronto. Even though we got a Kyle past his prime, I can now see why he's the greatest Raptor in the franchise's history (Kawhi, Vince, McGrady were better, but Lowry was greatest). W for the Hornets they got an expiring contract for cap flexibility and a first round pick.

Now let's get into Terry Rozier, who was brought up a Heat fan and now will be perhaps the key to our title aspirations. Rozier has shown he can score and create with some of the NBA's best guards. He ranks as one of the best pick and roll scorers, which pairs well next to one of the NBA's best pick and roll rollers in Bam Adebayo. We've seen him go insane in clutch moments, using his handle, his burst, his compact frame to create separation. Most of all, he's young and he looks to score, a steep contrast from Lowry at this stage in their careers. I think yesterday's game against Memphis was bad mostly due to jitters. He was trying to not step on anybody's foot, walk the line between being passive and aggressive. Incrementally I think he'll start to get more comfortable with the offense and when to score.

I'm not concerned with Rozier's fit with the other creators on the Heat's roster. Adding Scary Terry only allows Jimmy to rest up even more for the postseason, and Rozier will provide enough spacing for Jimmy to create. Adding Terry aloows Herro to still score when needed, but not have to be the primary ball handler always taking 20 shots a game. It allows them to balance the load. And Bam is going to really enjoy having an assertive guard running the pick and roll with him.
