Analysis: Spurs start off by moving on from the long term deal for McDermott while opting for a shorter term option in Harrison Barnes. Barnes can be a leader on this team and a mentor to Ousmane. I’m excited for this starting five. I don’t think it’s playoff level, but it’s close. Dejounte sets guys up with Johnson, Walker, and Barnes contributing on a nightly basis. Poetel man’s the middle and the bench brings help when needed. The draft: I really want the Spurs to add Dieng if at all possible. We need length and playmaking, and these are Dieng’s two biggest strengths. He fits really well next to Keldon Johnson as a versatile defender that pushes the break. At 20, we add Mark Williams. If the Spurs add a center, I want an athlete and Williams is one. Great shot blocker and rebounding, I think he’d be a really good backup from day 1 with some very high upside. At 25, we add another long playmaker in Dalen Terry. This is a very long term play and Terry likely won’t play much in year 1. The idea is that overtime Terry becomes a backup/replacement for Dejounte and coming to a team like San Antonio allows Terry to play make. His defense is also a huge plus. Overall, I view this as a team that should push for a 7-8 seed in the West with the idea that next year we make a move in FA with all the money and then compete and go for it in 23-24 and 24-25. Thanks for reading, and Go Spurs!
