Timberwolves: They get rid of Russell who has been playing pretty bad as of late and get a pg that is a great fit and their 6th man. Getting McConnell also allows McLaughlin to get more minutes who’s been playing great. Hardaway would provide a spark of the bench and gives them spacing and defense.

Pacers: The reason they do this deal is to acquire another young guy with promise in Green. Bertans is on a 3 year deal, which is the same as McConnell, but he only has 5 million guaranteed the last year. This also gives more minutes to Nembhard and other young guys.

Mavericks: There are 2 main reasons the Mavs accept this trade. 1: They get better now, 2: They have a better future. They get better now because Russell is a great fit for the Mavs and he replaces Brunson for this year. He’d help take some of the load from Luka and if things go wrong, he’s an expiring contract. They get a better future because they get rid of long, overpaid deals which would give them some good cap space next year, and they keep all their picks which could allow them to trade for another star.
