Why the Kings do it: Grant would be a really underrated pick-up. Showed himself to able step up and score from everywhere last year, and has always shown a willingness and ability to defend multiple positions. He’d be an excellent second option behind Fox, and could help shore up Sac’s D. Even at 27, he has room to grow into All-Star for the Kings.

As for the rest, getting a pick, even one likely to be in the late 20s*, takes the sting out giving up a first rounder and two young players for Grant. While Jones and Dunn could both step up into very useful back-up guards, the most interesting possibility is Culver. He’s a bust now, but has a real chance to grow into a ball-handler who can play lockdown D.

Why the Pistons do it: The Pistons may love Grant, but love has to give way to possibilities. Mitchell is a top-10 pick could be a do-it-all guard who plays monstrous D and opens the floor the Pistons, and he has lots of experience playing championship ball in three guard lineups (great for playing with Cunningham and Hayes). Bagley’s star has fallen quite a bit, but he’s still a potential 20 and 10 guy who can play the 4 or 5. And a Kings first rounder could fall into the lottery; the West is brutal, and these are the Kings. That’s a heck of a package for a player who’s been a revelation but is still a bit old for a rebuild.

Why the Grizzlies do it: The Grizzlies need shooting to open the floor around Morant as much as possible. There is no better available bigtime shooter than Hield, who’s somewhat struggled lately but is still is lights out for 3 and a potential 20+ point guy on a reasonable contract. In exchange, the Griz give up a late first rounder, a fallen prospect, and two players likely to sit on the deep bench behind Morant and Melton anyway. Decent trade for an asset.

*I chose the Lakers pick because while bot the Jazz and Lakers are championship contenders, the Lakers have a slightly higher chance at a hilarious regression with aged stars and potential spacing issues.
