Why for the Mavs? They have been looking for an upgrade at the 4 for a while now and Kuzma would certainly be an upgrade from Grant Williams. Is he the perfect fit, no but he is better defensively than what he's shows currently in Washington and the chance to compete in the playoffs would hopefully lead to him playing his best basketball. Kuz is incredibly talented and if he's in a system that is controlled would look a lot better than he currently does chucking shots for a broken Wizards team

Why for the Wizards? There is a directive from the front office to acquire picks. Here they net a Dallas 25 and regain control over their 24 1st, which would allow them trade flexibility going forward if an opportunity arose to land a disgruntled star down the road or to move up in a draft. Adding Grant Williams and Jaden Hardy can't hurt, you already suck so at least here you get a look at 2 new guys and don't have to pay Kuzma 25m for the next 4 going forward. Fournier has a team option so my guess is he gets bought out and the Wizards save some money

Why for the Knicks? They need a connector piece for the bench and Deni is one of those guys who would look much better on a good team. The Wizards aren't going to be that so they send him off before his extension kicks in, and in term that extension is good for the Knicks because it gives them a 15m tradeable chip for whatever superstar trade that they've been waiting for. Having contracts like that make it easier to mix and mash salaries and also make it less likely one of Brunson's boys (DDV or Hart) get dealt. Having Keef could be good insurance too, especially if fouls are needed on a KP, Embiid or a Jokic (God willing we get that far) in the playoffs
