Now... This is a lot. Then again, a lot needs done...
NICHOLAS CLAXTON:
1st of all, I'd like to come out to say that I haven't forgot about the 24 yr old. As our highest profile free agent, I thought it'd be better to showcase some of our alt options, for the possibility we fail to resign him (a likely outcome)...
OUR BIG MEN:
I'd like to shout-out ALAN WILLIAMS (31). He was an option I considered at back-up PF who I replaced with the younger BOL BOL (24) Who I actually rather consider more for C. ALAN, like TSHIEBWE (24) and DRUMMOND (30), is an extraordinary rebounder. He is also still active in the NBL.
HUFF (26) and GOGA (24) are both interchangeable 'Young' CENTERS, to tutor under S.ADAMS (30). Both are good Big-body Shot-blockers. GOGA is a gifted passer, and can shoot. HUFF is 7'1. Both could become serviceable C's under his tutelage (passing, boxing out, screen plays).
I also considered JAHLIL OKAFOR (28)... With DRUMMOND & ADAMS being 30, I thought it safer getting younger C's, one's more known defensively. - though if we only sign 1 of them, there could be room for his offensive capabilities.
ISAAC & DUOP:
JONATHAN ISAAC (26) is a trade target for me. Same with DUOP (27). He is on the Alt list only because of his contract size (17M). In order to make any big moves, we have to move some big money. The funny yet terrible thing is, we can afford both him and LONZO (26) if we trade BEN SIMMONS (A 40M contract who is allergic to minutes). I haven't the faith in his move, but there is a 23M contract on the books we can trade... CAM JOHNSON (28) who we can no-doubtfully move...
ISAAC in recent viewings has seemed a little slow, so I am somewhat hesitant, but still intrigued as to how he'd take on an opportunity at starting PF. DUOP is cheap, but valuable. So one of our smaller contracts: CLOWNEY (19). WHITEHEAD (19), SHARPE (22), BATES-DIOP (28) would be on the move; We'd likely have to move a pick to snag this emerging player from them.
We should push strongly for at least one of these guys...
PG POSITON:
This offseason, there is 1 GUARD who stands out the most MALIK MONK (26). He is a 6'3 score first GUARD, who could be looking for a starting role next season. He has been making strides in his Assists numbers, and I hope that he and CAM could figure out a fast pace dynamic between the two. Malik should cost 20M+ and replace the scoring output (and maybe more) from JOHNSON (PF). He will be a hard person to land as one of the higher profile players this free agency, but could make a lot of difference for us potentially if we get him.
I have a back up plan in LONZO BALL. He is a gamble health wise, and will likely to need a minutes cap. But he is very easy to insert into the line up, comparably to other 'obtainable' players. In an ideal world we get both, But this is not an ideal world...
MAC MCCLUNG (25) (6'2). Dynamic, Unsigned/cheap, Good at facilitating. He has proven his worth, and deserves a shot. Why not somewhere like Brooklyn, who could use some of what he promises to give?
My Back Up Back-up, is another trade, for BONES HYLAND (23). He like MALIK, is a score first 6'2 GUARD, Sharing the same facilitation woes as MONK at the 1. He should be a cheap trade, with his usage in LA. And a young paring next to THOMAS (22).
Then there are the guys we already have. DENNIS & DENNIS (30 & 26). Both good defensive players. SCHRODER Is a valuable facilitator but an unnecessary aggressor at times (Europeans are grouchy). Trading him is ultimately only worth considering for the 10M's he'd free us. We could easily keep both. The PG position is the hardest to improve upon realistically, and keeping these guys could lend a sense of stability ~ Though we would have to re-sign SMITH-JR.
BACK-UP 2-GUARD:
Now, we got our guy in CAM THOMAS. And I believe we've got a great back-up to resign in LONNIE WALKER (25)... I've just got 2 players scouted, to fill out the roster Only if DARIQ is packaged away.
LIANGELO (25) a strong 6'4 GUARD/FORWARD 3pt shooter, who could be worth putting in garbage minutes off ball next to ZO. That's IF we acquire ZO (which is very unlikely).
The other is a far more proven talent in 6'4 TAEVION KINSEY (24) is another guy who can make his own shot. And efficient from 3. Worth watching his highlights.
THE small FORWARDS:
ROYCE O'NEALE (30): I have NO idea why we traded this man. We trade him, we loose by 50, and fire our head-coach. Brooklyn Nets Making moves since 2012. I don't know what plan our office has, but mine includes a guy like Royce, who WILL still be able to produce NEEDED numbers up to his mid 30's at SF/SG/PF. Such a vital piece to this team SMDH...
After that we have LOFTON-JR (21), It's amazing to me that a guy this young and talented isn't being built around on another team. He's a concern defensively, sure. But he'll never learn how to guard NBA players in the Gleague. So I'm not at all concerned for how rocky his defensive career might start off... He's listed as a PF and he should be able to clock minutes at both spots. I've listed the 6'5 player at SF to utilize a bigger line up, not play him any differently.
ADONIS ARMS (25) a 6'6 defensive forward, who can shoot the rock. He's my back-up/Two-way option as I think he's earned a shot at the NBA, especially this past season in the Gleague...
Of course we could also keep BATES-DIOP or WHITHEAD in the final rotational spot if we fail to sign LOFTON or O'NEALE.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE COACH
Here I am completely lost. I wasn't a fan of the Vaughn firing mid-season. I get it, but leaving the players utterly directionless is no move.
As for who is available... Kenny Atkinson could be good to bring back? Becky Hammon (as a student of Pop) might be worth giving a shot? or if They're willing to splurge, Mike Budenholzer could possibly whip us into a competitive shape... I really need some feedback on this one, cause I dunno what to say about this mess, I get a headache just thinking about it.
But of course, if all else fails... Hire ol' Stan Van Gundy and form a f***ing Wall with our new bigs.
If there are any rookies you think we could trade for instead at the PG/PF/C spots, please point them out. I'm just working with current players for this mock-up.
Also I'd like to mention that a lot of this counts on our GM's ability to make trades. This is all very unlikely to happen. But I am now at least freed from my venting.
I believe we can all agree this last year has been frustrating being a Nets fan...
I'm only one guy. I'd also like to hear what players you guys have seen. Who would you personally bring in to help the team?
