The Jazz completely reload their roster, sending out both their current cornerstones who have simply never really worked together. However, they get three firsts in this draft (including two in the lottery), plus a future first, plus some young talent in Miles Bridges, Davion and Thybulle. Bridges and the #4 pick (Jaden Ivey?) will be the foundation, but guys like Conley and Hayward are smart vets that can fit in well around them. They have multiple veteran wings in O’Neale, Rudy Gay, Juancho Hernangomez, and Jordan Clarkson. Add in the defense of Davion and Thybulle, two other firsts in this draft, and this is certainly a team that won’t completely bottom out. Further down the line, the big contracts of Conley, Hayward, and Bogdanovic will all be coming off the books within the next two years, so that’s when they could look to really start competing again once these young guys have developed.

The Kings get best the “win-now” player they could possibly get for #4. Korkmaz for Harkless is a slight win, but this deal is basically giving up #4, a future first, Davion, and Barnes for Donovan Mitchell. That’s a lot of assets numerically, but you’re giving up two players that are average starters at very best and an unknown rookie for a young, proven All-Star on a long deal. On the court, Mitchell, Fox, and Sabonis are a VERY offensively slanted core, especially when the other best remaining perimeter players will be Jeremy Lamb and Donte DiVincenzo (both of whom are free agents). Those guys are solid players, but both a little small to be the starting 3. Richaun Holmes is a good center, and guys like Justin Holiday and Furkan Korkmaz provide decent depth. It’s clear that this team still really lacks defense and depth. However, they’d be young, they’d have stars, they’d have an identity, and they’d probably make the playoffs. For a team like the Kings, that’s a pretty damn good place to start.

It’s no secret that the Jazz need a high-level center to pair with LaMelo. LaMelo can be darn-near a one-man offense some nights, so why not pair him with the one-man defense himself? Not to mention, Gobert will be much happier catching 5 lobs a night from Mr. Ball than he was getting iced out of the offense by Mitchell. Giving up a young rising stud like Bridges hurts, especially along with a late lottery pick. But Gobert is an All-NBA player, and you have to give something to get something. Hayward has been solid when healthy, but he rarely is, and his big deal is probably a net negative at this point in the game. Hayward and Bridges both leaving does leave a bit of a hole on the wings next to P.J. Washington, but that could be filled by Kelly Oubre, or by #15 which the Hornets still have. Plumlee would be well-suited as a bench center, and the Hornets would hope to get more out of James Bouknight next year, as he’d ideally develop into a Jordan Poole-type spark plug off the bench. Bridges leaving definitely does sting, but if it gives LaMelo more opportunities to create (along with a couple extra possessions for Rozier, Bouknight, and Washington), it might not be that big of a loss.

The 76ers sneak in here to snag some desperately needed size on the wings. Thybulle is an incredible defender, but was still on the fringes of the rotation due to his inconsistency and atrocious offense. Danny Green is severely injured, and his non-guaranteed deal means he’ll probably get waived by the Jazz, so he’s just included to make money match. Here, the Sixers basically just give up Thybulle and a late first to get a guy they can depend on to guard the bigger wings that are popular across the East’s best teams, and one who also gives you some serious juice offensively. He’s frankly like having another Tobias Harris, and having those two at the forward spots gives the 76ers a frightening starting five. Swapping out Korkmaz for Harkless also gives a little more size and defense to the bench unit. Shake Milton, Paul Reed, and Georges Niang are all still pretty unproven bench players at this point, but Daryl Morey has always focused on filling out the top of the roster at the expense of depth. He’ll probably add a veteran guard or two with the MLE or BAE, and hope that an off-season of rehab for Harden plus a significant improvement on the wings with Barnes will be enough to bring Philly it’s first chip in the 21st century.
