Rockets open up max cap flexibility for 2025 offseason while gaining much needed shooting and a future 1st Round Pick. While Brooks is good defensively, he is redundant with some of Houston's young players and allows Amen Thompson to start at the 3. Assuming Houston drafts Sheppard, Houston's depth chart and 12-man roster next season is as follows

FVV/Sheppard Jalen/Kennard/Fournier Amen/Cam Jabari/Tari/Jeff Green Sengun/Adams

Pistons do what the Rockets did in 2023 and use some of their cap space to add toughness and culture builders, including one of the same characters that helped Houston's culture this season. Dillon and Tate added to Auasar gives Detroit 3 high level wings in their rotation.

For Memphis, this trade is primarily financially motivated as it gives Memphis a rotation caliber backup C and sheds about $6m in cap space, Memphis is about $1.5m away from the first apron right now, so any cap savings will help. Houston would probably be willing to give up pick #44 in thi…

In addition to adding Jalen Green to their young core, Portland also gets a high 2RP (currently #37) and a cost-controlled rotation piece that can either fit seamlessly into a role player spot or who they can flip for more assets. Even if Jalen isn't an exact positional need at the moment, you are buying him on the low side of his valuation and Portland is in talent acquisition mode right now. Oladipo and Landale are just expirings added to make the salaries work (Landale NG contract after this season)

Scoot/Jalen Green

Simons/Sharpe

Thybulle/Camara

Grant/Tate/Walker

Ayton/Reath

Due to hitting on 5 other first rounders the past 3 years and the bevy of quality BKN picks coming in the pipe, HOU can afford trade Jalen Green for win now pieces. Brogdon and Bob fit both of HOU's immediate winning needs while not handicapping their future cap space or asset cabinet. Also allows the 2024 BKN pick to potentially have room in the Rockets rotation as well.

FVV/Amen

Brogdon/Holiday

Brooklyn gets a legit young guy in OG, several other rotation pieces, 2 TOR 1st Round Picks. Most important of all however is they get all their picks back from Houston, essentially regaining freedom on how they want to rebuild their roster as opposed to being forced to try and win bc of lack of pick control

Toronto gets KD and immediately becomes a title favorite. It’s a steep price with Barnes/OG/Precious/Birch/2 1’s, but KD was never going to be cheap. The addition of Kenyon Martin Jr (or Garrison Matthews, other goes to BKN) on a cost-controlled contract too shouldn’t be overlooked as he would come in and provide rotation minutes. You could talk me into the Raptors not having to give up all this for KD, but I don’t think this price is way far off

Houston cashes in the Brooklyn picks for a future All Pro candidate in Scottie Barnes. It’s an easy pill to swallow to give up all that draft capital when you can envision of Jalen Green/Jabari Smith/Scottie Barnes trio for the next deca…

There aren't many options here:

-Nets take on bad contracts to take on potential "win-now" pieces as it does them no good to bottom out -Rockets take on Russ for the price of a LAL 1st Round Pick as Nets would prefer John Wall back back over Russell Westbrook…

Description in title. The ability for the Knicks to waive Danny Green makes this trade work as it frees up cap space for them dramatically and they take back a cost controlled young asset.

Pelicans trade 3 spots back, grab a really high level lottery pick in Ja'Sean Tate as well as another 1st Rounder

Pretty self explanatory why Philly and Houston do it…

Rockets Rationale:

While this seems like a lot for the Rockets to give up, it is the price you pay to consolidate assets and take a swing on major talent during a rebuild. Plus, none of the players the Rockets are giving up fit into the long term plans of the team.

The goal here is you would take Shaedon Sharpe at #4 and add him to Jalen Green, 2022 #3 pick and the other complimentary young role players the Rockets have drafted the past couple of years. The Sharpe intrigue with the Rockets is the fact that the Rockets would not necessarily be in a rush to bring him on and throw him into the fire right away. The Rockets have incentive to lose for 1 more year and also have the best G-League program in the NBA. Sharpe could spend a significant amount of his rookie season in the G-League developing (think KPJ) after his year off while the Rockets lose for one more season (look at the rotation below) with an extremely young roster. The additional players the Rockets would bring on in this…
