Brice Sensabaugh: 6’6” 235 lbs 19.6 years old Freshman, Ohio State 16.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.4 bpg, 0.5 spg, 48%, 40.5% 3%, 83% ft% Overview: Brice Sensabaugh put together a wildly impressive statistical season for a freshman but his injuries, body type and defensive efforts put fear into the eyes of evaluators. Sensabaugh plays bully ball offense exceptionally and shoots very well from all three levels. He reminds me a bit of his predecessor at Ohio State, Malachi Branham (maybe TJ Warren) who also was a tweener with concerns for how his game would adapt. Sensabaugh gets where he wants on the court relying on his size and heft and converts at a high level. He is not much of a passer but that was not his role for a poor Buckeyes team. Sensabaugh will likely have to lose some weight for him to play much in the NBA but his undeniable knack for scoring and impressive shooting splits makes him an interesting prospect with sneaky upside should he lose weight, stay healthy and gain explosiveness.

Strengths: Efficient volume scorer as a freshman. Shooting splits were 48/51/83 Strong wing with size to play the 2 or 3. 45% catch and shoot from 3 Scores in the post with alarming efficiency. Scores off of the bounce and the catch. Draws contact and as a result goes to the free throw line. 46% on pullup jumpshots. Solid Ball Handler. Fills lanes in transition. Weaknesses: Hardly passes. Takes a lot of difficult shots Knee issues. Negative assist to turnover. Struggles to create space against bigger defenders he cant overpower. Does not have a quick first step. Mediocre to poor college defender.

Strengths

  • one of the elite offensive prospects in a while, high volume 24 points per 36 as a freshman (insane, he is in very very elite company)

  • nice 3p% (41% on 4.5 attempts)

  • efficient on 59% TS

  • mid-range game is unreal

Weaknesses

  • not looking to pass (0.60 Assist/TO ratio - very poor, but likely will improve with age)

  • poor defense (0.5 stl, 0.4 blk per game)

  • production numbers need to be considered under context of limited minutes

NOTE: IMO there isn't a real solid #2 pick in this draft.

Bio: Ohio St., October 30, 2003 (19), 6’6”, 235 lb, Forward

Stats:

Strengths:

  • Scoring at all three levels

  • Tough shot making

  • Strong & powerful

  • Basketball IQ

Weaknesses:

  • May struggle to defend quicker players

  • Could stand to become a better playmaker

  • Occasionally relies to much on easy post ups

  • Quick decision making

Rundown:

Brice is built like a truck, and scores at will. His scoring numbers at Ohio St. are some of the most insane numbers scouts will ever see. His ability to shoot off the catch means that defenses have to respect him. His ability to get into the paint and just go to work is awesome. Teams will have questions about his conditioning and durability, but so far, he hasn’t had any real issues. The team that drafts him will look really smart for a while when he’s coming in and putting up 20 ppg as a rookie. The question is, will he win games?

Brice Sensabaugh has come out of nowhere as an electric scorer for Ohio State. He’s a burly scorer that has an immense amount of feel on the offensive side of the floor. He has big-time buckets that are tough to stop. He doesn’t create a lot of space but manages to hit contested shots in the face of anybody. He likes to spin around for tough jumpers right in defenders' faces which should be an inefficient shot but he just hits them. He has a really smooth stroke from three but more often than not, he likes to move up for a better look. In the midrange, he likes to walk into pull-ups or conduct fadeaways, but for some reason, he remains stationary on the perimeter. Brice will often wiggle around for a little bit before just stepping hard and letting it fly. The most he’ll usually do is a simple sidestep or fake out but that's generally about it. He relocates well in between moments where he handles the ball but struggles when it comes to using ball handling to give himself a shot. It seems he has to have more of a setup to get his arc right from the outside which could limit his transition as a self-creator at the next level. As I said, he moves well without the ball. He has been an effective off-ball cutter that’s always trying to stay aware of where the ball is. He’s not overly athletic but is able to get it done in little open lanes that he finds. He isn’t an above-the-rim finisher and isn’t great at transition and downhill play. Players who rely heavily on this type of offense in college sometimes struggle to translate to the NBA due to a lack of athleticism and ability to create, but I don’t think Brice has this problem. He’s currently utilized as Ohio State’s main option so he’s guarded pretty fiercely by some tough Big 10 defenses. Once he gets to the league, he’s mostly likely to be used as a spot-up shooter and catch-and-shoot threat. He can also score at times from the inside but isn’t a great downhill attacker due to physical limitations. He’s a very stocky player and he likes to use that offensively. By the basket, he uses his size to bully other slimmer guys at his position. It seems he doesn’t go to this part of his skillset due to a conditioning or stamina issue. He has had injury issues in high school which could have had long-term effects on his lower body burst. Once he’s put in an NBA physical program and is utilized in a lesser role, he could build more of a capability to score in ways outside of tough shotmaking. His ability to distribute the ball is rather weak. He doesn’t look to pass as often as he should due to his mental wiring as a scorer. He has shown ability when getting it to cutters and shooters but he doesn’t choose to see the floor in the way he needs to. Defensively he has some issues with effort. He isn’t fast and agile enough to handle a lot of on-ball coverage. Defenders tend to blow past him. He doesn’t fare much better off of the ball as he gets lost and distracted easily. I would also like to see him play with some more grit on this end of the floor seeing that he has a bulky frame and long arms. These defensive shortcomings are a combination of athleticism and intensity issues. He has the physical tools such as length but his body and mind have a hard time keeping up with the pace of the game. He might be having issues due to his large offensive load at Ohio State but he will need to learn how to adjust and diversify his role once he gets drafted. With a lesser work expectancy as an on-ball scorer, he can hopefully develop in his areas of need such as defense and playmaking. He’s been an offensive star in college and has shown flashes of converting his role to be an effective weapon in the league.

OFFENSE 6’6” WING scorera with that touch and that size rarely fail great balance, can stop on a dime He can knock down open spot-up threes, and some off the bounce. mid-range touch and scoring package really intriguing can hit multiple varieties of shots DOES NOT NEED A HIGH USAGE TO BE EFFECTIVE NOT GOOD AT GOING TO THE RIM should draw more fouls can still create some space in unconventional ways not great first step esp in midrange BUT many tough shots his passing is not good maybe getting better has tunnel vision not always using his threat to score

DEFENSE efensive efforts have also come into question early on at Ohio State not great at rotating , not good team defender can sometimes hold his own one on one

Brice Sensabaugh has taken over college basketball, being one of the most productive freshmen in the nation. A strong forward, he is a walking bucket and he can score from all three levels. He's got a good handle and a quick first step. He's got a great jumper and doesn't miss. He’s shooting 50/40/80 this year at Ohio State. His defense is a bit sloppy but he can fix it with work ethic. It should be a priority for him to clean up on defense. His playmaking has slightly improved. He's got a great foundation as a scorer and averaged 16 a game despite coming off the bench for a good portion of the season. His self creation is great, he's got solid quickness and good moves. He shot 53% of the dribble 2s, making him one of the most efficient freshmen ever. He was arguably the best scoring freshman this year, right up there with Brandon Miller. He can knock down tough shots. He's an underrated 3 point shooter. His defensive impact needs to grow if he wants to be a true superstar in the league. He's improved as a playmaker but still isn't great.

Offensive advanced stats darling. Eric Gordon body with a more mechanical shooting stroke. Game reminds me of Evan Turner. Not the quickest laterally or fastest at straight-line speed, but can get to his spot via some shift and shake/uses size to post up and pull up for contested mid-range shots with relatively good efficiency. Defensively, can use his size against post players, but lack of mobility and quickness laterally can be a problem at the next level.

Brice Sensabaugh- Ohio State (SF) Age:19.6yrs 6”6 235 (TJ Warren or Tobias Harris)

Extremely gifted scorer on all three levels. A matchup nightmare type of player as he will bully or rise up over smaller defenders or use his quickness when a bigger defender is on him. He gets to his spots extremely well and finishes around the rim well and shoots the three at a high rate as well. Sensabaugh is not much of a passer as he is a score first player. Defense was a rough area where he was not very active and found himself out of position often.
