Victor Wembenyama is undoubtedly the best prospect of all time in my eyes. His offensive repertoire is so extremely versatile and simply combining that with the fact that he is 7’5” is insane. We haven’t seen his type of length just move the way he moves. His dynamic perimeter game flows so fluidly which alludes to an offensive ceiling the likes of Kevin Durant. Last year his shot looked very smooth but it just wasn’t falling which caused him to not earn a lot of minutes now with his new club, Metropolitan 92, things have changed. In this new environment, he has shined as the main star and creator of the team and is actually shooting better splits on a larger volume which is most likely due to confidence and just overall improvement. His shooting stroke has been a little inconsistent but the arc looks good and the fact that he puts up a respectable percentage and looks the way he does puts away most worry. He can hit from really deep. The NBA range is legit and it’s not just from spot-ups. He loves to hit fadeaways and step-backs which is the type of bag you would expect from a player a whole foot shorter than him. His jumper is impossible to block so I don’t really care if everything isn’t 100% together yet. We have seen a much larger sample size of his otherworldly perimeter mobility which had been very assuring to those who doubted his ability to play at a high level. He moves on the perimeter like a guard and is an exceptionally gifted ball handler for any big man let alone someone of his staggering size. Opponents are often caught off guard and aren’t able to handle the combination of size and fluidity in his game. He can work around the rim very well and has displayed his ability to make very tough finishes and complete difficult post moves. He can basically outreach his man with his never-ending arms to complete challenging lays, floaters, and hooks. Victor isn’t afraid to use his dominance on that offense either, he can play like the 7’5” he is. Although skilled around the basket he is fine with just using his size to bully his opponents. He can crash down like a tidal wave on pretty much anybody. He runs down the court like a gazelle with long strides and is super efficient when getting to the rim. In transition he is unstoppable because he can pace with everyone on the run before just slamming over whoever’s in front of him. He rebounds the ball well but doesn’t do it quite as much as I would like. Despite his size, his numbers off of boards aren’t usually too crazy due to this perimeter play. When he does go for the ball he can easily get it. He has had some crazy highlight plays where he’ll miss a shot and immediately swoop in for the board and dunk. Once the ball is back into his hands nobody can poke it away. I would like to see him positioned to get rebounds more often but I understand why that isn’t currently the case. Victor is a bit of an underrated passer. Despite being ball dominant on offense he does like to share the rock and distribute when the situation calls for it. He’s very unselfish and while it’s clear he has his draft stock in mind, his first priority is winning. On the defensive side of the ball he is just unstoppable physically. Victor is rumored to have an 8’0+ wingspan which wouldn’t be surprising at all after just looking at him and his other measurements. He uses his length to swat any shot attempt in sight. Although he is very good already, if Victor can continue to improve the mental aspect of his blocking, I can see him as being a lock as a league leader in blocks. He sometimes overgoes when it comes to blocks because he has a chance to deflect on almost every shot attempt which can sometimes be a real detriment. I would also like him to be a little more controlled when deterring a shot and try to get it toward a teammate rather than just sending it out of bounds. As for perimeter defense, he is actually better than you might think. His mobility allows him to be pretty effective and just the idea of his blocking deters opponents from shooting when he’s on them. Sometimes he can look like a deer on ice but his big plodding feet help to keep him planted and from being super skittish. Something I was afraid of going into this season was how Victor would handle mentally and so far he’s really surprised me with how much grit he has. Despite news coverage around him picking up drastically since last year's draft cycle ended he has held up well and has shown that he can be very tough. On and off the court he hasn’t been too frightened of all the attention and has actually been a bit of a trash-talker (which is a good thing). He has that tenacity you would want and he understands what he needs to do to reach his ceiling. Victor has probably the highest expectations for a player going into the league since Lebron so the off the court mental aspect is a very important piece to projecting how his career might play out. The big concerning part of his physical profile is his health and durability. Even though he is young, he has already been plagued by injuries and although none of them were serious it is quite worrying. Players close to his stature have historically been derailed by their bodies breaking down and even though a lot of that has been used as unfair stereotyping like it was with Chet last year, it could be a problem. Adding a bit of weight would probably ease the minds of NBA franchises but if you were to actually look back at how big versatile players like Victor have done after adding weight they actually fare worse. The problem with adding too much bulk to a special player like him is that they often lose the touch or skill that makes them unique in the first place so finding a balance will be very important moving forward. Victor has some small concerns but is a lock for this year's number-one pick. He is definitely a generational talent and will change an entire franchise and maybe the entire league once he gets to the NBA. We haven't seen someone of his size do the things he can, and there isn’t much that can stop him on his road to greatness.

This will be an ever changing NBA draft guide from now until June 22nd. I’ll be going in depth on as many prospects as possible and will be adding things and changing rankings daily. On this draft board I'll list players strengths, weaknesses, draft range, and comparisons along with a lengthy analysis (and a summary for people looking to just skim). The prospects I have done will have their sections edited and added to as the draft cycle goes on. This analysis will be put into a final mock draft a few days before the actual draft along with a team/pick review. I have liked doing these for the past few years not only for others to read, but for myself when I want to look back at players and drafts. I hope you enjoy reading, this took a lot of effort.
