Kris Murray: 6’8.75” 213 lbs 6’11.75” wingspan 22.8 years old Junior, Iowa 20.2 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2 apg, 1.2 bpg, 1 spg, 47.6% fg%, 33.5% 3%, 72.9% ft%

Overview: Kris Murray is a very productive college player whos role will diminish in the NBA but he projects to fill a needed role in the NBA as a 3 and D spacer at the power forward spot. Murray combines intangibles, offensive versatility and defensive upside to position himself as a high floor prospect that will be a first rounder despite being older for a prospect. Murray has a smooth lefty jumper that slipped to 33 percent but on far more difficult of looks than he will get at the next level. Murray figures to be a bench piece who can rebound, defend and space the floor pretty quickly in his NBA tenure and though he may lack tremendous upside, there is a nice safety to a prospect of this ilk.

Strengths: Big floor spacer Very intelligent player with good intangibles. Moves without the ball on perimeter and as a cutter. Good rebounder. 41% on catch and shoot attempts. Could be a pick and pop player. Secondary rim protection upside. Can post up and space. Can drive to his strong left hand or his weaker right hand similarly well. Rebounds on offensive and defensive glass.

Weaknesses: Not a superb run and jump or sprint athlete. Not a creative scorer though he will not need to be. Lower ceiling due to age Only short 34% on jump shots as a 22 year old junior. May need to gain weight if he wants to the play the 4.

It’s easy to see how Kris Murray will be in the league due to how his twin brother has fared so far and a projectable role. At Iowa, he has stepped up this year and has largely filled what Keegan Murray was the year prior. He’s made some big strides when you compare him to the player he was last year. He was a rotation player that was buried on the bench as a guy that was just okay at everything. When he played in scrimmages at the draft combine he looked a step behind all of the next-level talent there but things have since changed. He has leveled up most areas of his game to be a better player and has had an upward trajectory that presents some upside. He operates as a scorer that can get buckets fast without much effort. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to cook and he works well on and off of the ball. Despite not being super agile, he glides around and gets great looks for spot-up threes which he is quite proficient at. He has a high level of feeling when it comes to reading the court for open space. He’s very smart and knows how to weave through defenses to set himself up for a basket. He makes smart cuts to the basket and can use his nice size and finesse to score over or around the rim. His handle of the ball isn’t very strong which is why he’s developed this style of scoring. His lack of capability as an on-ball scorer isn’t anything to worry about as he will be easy to convert into a role player in the NBA. He has shown some dynamic skills as a dribble shooter. Players often underestimate his ability to shoot jumpers himself from deep so he’s been able to get shots off easily. He can walk a bit into his looks on the perimeter and has flashed some more comfortability when letting it fly despite his slower movements. His first step is nice but his size causes him to be a bit sluggish. Standing at 6’8”, 220, he isn't the lightest player on the court but as previously mentioned, this is a tool he likes to use. He makes quick post moves that show a lot of skill. He can use his strength to shift others around the rim but it isn’t something he overly relies on. He can get straight to the paint with ease in set drives. I would like to see him be a little more creative and daring in his lanes but this isn’t much of a gripe. He is an effective athlete so he can rise above anybody when needed for a simple move. Kris is also a nice passer. He reads the floor really well for a player of his size and is unselfish when it comes to moving the ball around. He tries to find open shooters and cutters for easy offense and it’s clear he’s looking to play within the system at Iowa. He compliments his teammates, whether that means setting hard screens or getting beat up on drawn charges. He hustles hard in every aspect and plays for the team. He fights hard for rebounds and is active on the offensive and defensive glass. He is also very poised defensively. He’s versatile on and off of the ball and can switch positions in spurts. He uses his size when covering someone and is aware of what's going on so teams don’t like to dare him with tricky passing lanes. He knows how much space to give and has stable fundamentals on that end of the floor. One gripe with Kris is his age. He turns 23 before the regular season starts, but he has been improving at a steady rate and the probable high floor is enticing. We've seen how his brother, Keegan Murray, has impacted one of the best teams in the league. He shares a similar skillset and should plug in immediately in a scalable role as a contributor or a cornerstone for whichever team drafts him. He has NBA intelligence and size that will help his newfound production convert to the next level. Kris’s archetype as a versatile offensive and defensive player is highly sought after and he should generate a lot of interest. His brother was the fourth pick of the draft last year, and although it’s a stronger draft class, I could see front offices seeing a lot of the same things they saw in the previous draft cycle with Keegan.

Kris Murray is the twin brother of Kings forward Keegan Murray. He's skilled offensively with smooth athleticism. He's a great off ball player and always finds himself in a position to score. He isn't a high volume shooter or a natural 3 point shooter. He has continually improved in that area and looks like he could be an above average 3 point shooter. He's a solid defender and is versatile with high defensive IQ. He is one of the older prospects in the class

Kris Murray- Iowa (F) Age: 22.8yrs 6”8 220 (Dorrien Finny-Smith)

A year after his twin brother Keegan dominated at Iowa and went 4th in last year's NBA draft it was Kris Murrays turn to dominate and he did just that becoming Iowa’s leading scorer. Murray has a smooth lefty shot that was effective from three and has excellent defensive instincts and recovery skills. He is not a great self creator but can be a good three and D type player.

Left-handed version of his twin brother Keagan, but not as athletic. Slower release on his shot, but just as effective. Plays wing as a 4 or a 3 both offense and defense. Great catch-and-shoot ability with enough scoring off the dribble. High IQ player who hit clutch shots during his stint in college.

No, this is not Keegan Murray, but it is his twin (it's like the Morris twins all over again). Kris Murray burst onto the scene this year with his scoring ability, doubling his scoring average from 10 points per game to 20 points this past season. He took on a bigger scoring role after his brother left, and Kris scored much differently; Kris was one who shot all over the court and tried to improve in many areas on the court, not one who attacked where he was most comfortable. From the right corner three, he was excellent, where he shot 46% from the 23-25 area in that corner. He is not one to dance around the perimeter much, rather he is a guy that excelled when he was facing up in the post. I liked his first step when facing up and was a particularly great finisher around the basket, finishing with both hands at a great rate. I think his size, pace, and good length (6'8" with a 7-foot wingspan) really showed out on his drives, and I think he showed great stuff as a cutter to the basket, where he could be very well used in those situations. His first step was not great when he was around the perimeter, and I do not expect, at this point, for him to be relied on as a primary offensive initiator in the big leagues. He had a handful of opportunities as a catch-and-shoot opportunities that I think he showed great flashes, especially since he was now getting guarded heavily as the main offensive hub at Iowa. I do not expect his playmaking to be a big part of his NBA game, but he had nice dump-off passes that were noteworthy. I think he was a solid rebounder, grabbing almost 8 rebounds a game, having the highest defensive rebounding percentage on the team at close to 18%. I am not sure if he showed enough to be a "down in the trenches" rebounder, but I think he should be sufficient enough. I found his defense to be pretty nice. He averaged a block and a steal per game, and film showed me he was good at holding his own in 1v1 situations, and I found his overall awareness of where he is and where he is supposed to be on plenty of defensive situations was good. His length and strength was something that stood out defensively, being very smart and bothersome on that end, holding opponents to just 34% from the field. For someone that had so much responsibility, he really showed out. I am not sure he has the exceptional tools that some of these other forwards may have, but Kris Murray seems to have the same skillset as that of the many excellent 4th options on contenders.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of Keegan Murray (who would've thought) and Dorian Finney-Smith

  • Projected Draft Position: Picks 17-27

  • Best Fits: Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors
