RANK

Kobe Brown: 6’7.5” 252 lbs 7’0.75” wingspan 23.4 years old Senior, Missouri. 15.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.5 spg 55.3% fg%, 45.5% 3%, 79.2% ft%

Overview: Kobe Brown has been a gem hiding in plain sight all season long. Brown shot 46 percent from 3 in a big body with sneaky quickness and obvious strength in the SEC. Brown fits roles occupied by Grant Williams, David Roddy and more who use big bodies to have positional versatility and size on defense and space the floor on offense. Brown can really shoot the basketball and has more to his offensive game than just that. Brown had 23 dunks in the half court alone this past year showing improved foot speed, athleticism and the ability to create for himself. Brown should have an immediate role as a 3 and D wing who can handle the ball a little and be rebound and run threat from day 1.

Strengths: Excellent shooter. Long arms Big body he knows how to use. 53.7% on unguarded catch and shoots. 44.3% on catch and shoots. 63% at the rim. Scores in many ways in half court. Attacks closeouts and can pass in advantage basketball situations. Solid intangibles and feel for the game. Good physicality on offense and defense. Weaknesses: Fouls a lot. Reliant on being stronger at times. Not a great non dunk finisher at the rim in the half court. Limited growth potential in NBA at 23. Feet are nimble but maybe not quick on defense. Not a rim protector at all.

Kobe Brown is a big bulky burly player that possesses a lot of finesse for his size. He is one of those players with a really unique combination of skill set and frame. He’s in the body of a beefy forward which is something that is definitely a part of his game. He likes to work in the post but he brings in the footwork and patience of a guard when trying to score. He controls the pace of the game whenever he has the ball whether that is speeding up or slowing down. He sets the tone for everyone around him including his teammates which is such a rare trait to have. He’s a walking mismatch that can blow past bigs and bully small guards. He doesn't cause many turnovers because he can weave the ball around defenders' limbs when playing up close. He likes to get close to the rim with his back against the basket before spinning around you and dunking. Once he has his shoulder buried into his matchup it’s too late. He was highly efficient in the paint and I expect him to continue with this ease in the league because of his athleticism. He has a very nice physical profile with a ton of burst and vertical pop for his size. It doesn’t really seem to make a difference whether he’s in an open lane or not because he can just slip around or crash through defenders. Slow post-move play isn’t something that’s very viable in today’s NBA but I think that Kobe has enough skill outside of it to work. He’s emerged as a very talented three-point shooter that shot it from lights out his Senior year. Most of his shooting was very stationary but he looked very confident when shooting it. His form is stiff but he was encouraged to shoot and he hit shots with a nice touch so I believe it. His handle is tricky but not very fast so his perimeter production will mostly be from catch-and-shoot attempts. His game in the midrange wasn’t something he really went to at Missouri and with his presence already being effective in the paint and from behind the art I don’t see him going there often. In college, he commanded a lot of touches and has the abilities of a play finisher but he developed a lot of playmaking. He whips the ball to the perimeter and finds open shooters, he can make the handoff to his teammate in the paint for the easy basket, and he can serve as the ball handler in the pick and roll because he’s so respected as a post player. He was used as a post hub but I can easily see him shifting to be a connective tissue that can work in a variety of roles. He starts a lot of transition plays by fighting to get possession of the ball in a variety of ways. He rebounds the ball with a ton of force and bodies anybody who goes up to fight with him. He’s very sneaky as a defender and finds passing lanes to cut into. Although he is a defensive stopper that uses his size and athleticism, he probably won’t be able to cover primary options as he does in college because he doesn’t have the quickest movements. He runs a lot of what Missouri does on both ends of the floor and is constantly talking to teammates and morphing things around. Communicative leaders translate well because they find ways to fit in and adjust and that's something I see in Kobe. He should be an instant plug-in as a complementary playmaker, catch-and-shoot option, and physical driver.

Kobe Brown- Missouri (SF) Age: 23.5yrs 6’7 252

Brown is a versatile offensive player with a much improved jumper this season, increasing his three point percentage from 20% to 45% from his Junior to Senior season. Brown is also an aggressive cutter using his body to shield and get looks at the rim as well as find open cutters. Brown likes to push the pace by bringing the ball up himself or looking for outlet passes. His combination of size and quickness allow him to switch onto multiple positions. The knock on him is that he broke out late especially with the shooting and was somewhat of a system guy at Missouri who spread things out and pushed the ball a lot.

Markieff Morris/PJ Washington type. Smooth shooting forward with good scoring instincts. Can hit the step-back three on occasion. Quick on his feet on offense, allows him to dribble past slower defenders. Has the size to post up smaller defenders. Decent playmaker for his size: makes the right passes in the half-court and always looks up to make the hit-ahead passes off rebounds. Good defender but can improve lateral quickness. Decent rebounder but lack of elite athleticism and lateral quickness limits his potential there.

You want to talk about weird bodies and weird frames, let's talk about Kobe Brown. The 6'8" forward measured in with a 7'1" wingspan and weighed in at 250 pounds, which poses as such a unique build, considering his strengths. Brown was one excellent finisher on his drives, converting those drives at a 63% rate. He was more effective going to his right, utilizing a nice hesitation pound dribble as his main go-to in the half court. Brown, himself, is already a mismatch guy due to his size, but he is one that repeatedly tries to hunt the players who he knows can't guard him from a physical standpoint. He can create opportunities for himself by getting to the basket, and he was also solid at creating opportunities for others, usually pushing the pace and throwing outlet passes off rebounds. He is very quick with getting the ball out of his hands and setting players up to get in the fast break for easy buckets. Because of his craftiness as a finisher and his physicality, I think Brown can be utilized in the post if need be. He was a good shooter this year, shooting 46% on 112 total attempts. I think that he is better as a catch-and-shoot guy, as he shot 44% on those attempts, and with how his form is, the jumper was much more smooth and natural in spot-up situations rather than in creation opportunities, so if he needs to create, I'd prefer to get him to the basket. His point of attack defense is really solid. His strength, physique and long arms makes him an annoying point of attack defender. He knows how to keep his arms up and not reach often. Brown knows how to use his length to his advantage as a weak-side helper as well, timing his jumps and being difficult to bend around because of his frame. The issue with him on the defensive end is his quickness and how versatile as a switchable defender he can be. Kobe Brown is just a good basketball player and utilizes his tools and traits well enough to dominate. I am not sure where his ceiling would lie, but you would think that with his physical tools and ability to knock down catch-and-shoot threes, he should carve a role one way or another.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of (Current) Rudy Gay and Eric Paschall

  • Projected Draft Position: Picks 40-50

  • Best Fits: Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies

Is a senior, bit of an elder prospect Has some creative moves in the post Really big, chunky build Doesn’t move/excel so well Doesn’t impress as an athlete/self-creator Not a great form, hunks down and throws up a straight bullet to the rim - 3pt percentages could be somewhat fluky Liability as a defender, slug, easy to get past 1-on-1 and run away from off-ball Not a movement shooter, needs set feet and squared hips Solid defender against bigs, has no versatility, can’t keep up with quick guards Lack of focus at the point of attack, quick first steps burn Brown Can disappear in games, simply stand around and watch Really tough to outmatch, impossible to box him out Currently exploring his bag of tricks, needs to polish game in many ways Hurts team by trying to be too fancy Not necessarily a finisher, has some ugly misses Advanced handle and footwork for his position Surprising low college basketball IQ for a senior Really tough to guard in the post, really overpowering body that attracts defender bail out fouls Can force opportunities that aren’t there Tremendous playmaker, stats don’t show, has eye for cutters and spot-up shooters Makes some sneaky-good reads Talented shooter in senior season, though results are weird (3pt % in Mizzou career, 25,25,20,45) Lack of athleticism concerns me, who is he? Explosive dunker, slams down hard Has fun play to which he becomes a quarterback, throwing the ball down court to running teammates Offensive versatility, plays in several different roles Solid board man No issue finishing through contact Not afraid to hit the deck, make hustle plays Terrific screen man potential Impressive off-ball awareness, gets his hand in passing lanes Athletic finisher, gets UP really high Impactful off-the-catch, gets the ball up fluidly and in a rhythm Lacks a strong handle of the ball, clumsy, causes turnovers Solid vision for outlet players Had games where he just dominated the post, defense couldn’t handle his combination of post moves and physicality Effective rip-through move Off-the-dribble scoring is definitely an improvement area, needs to be so stable with his shot Can get so hot for stretches offensively Has mid-read possessions, tries to do too much as a playmaker, ends up giving the ball to the defense Sometimes loses playmaking feel, taps out of rhythm

⭐️Tier 6) ROTATIONAL PLAYER

  • 6’8 long and built like a tank

  • 23 years old

  • Jack of all trades

  • Has a solid handle and can be used as play initiator

  • Excellent vision and strong feel for the game

  • Passes well off the dribble, off cuts and drives, in the post and as an outlet passer

  • Shot >40% from three this last year as well and jumper looks a little funky but still good. He shot low 20% first few years of college on about 200 attempts but over 40% on 112 attempts last year so I trust in his development as a shooter.

  • He uses his large body to absolute bully everyone down in the painted area to get shots off

  • Excellent cutter and just overall high IQ offensively

  • Was used as a ball handler, screener, post up mismatch guy, and catch and shoot player and thrived in each role at Missouri.

  • Has a nice combo of spins, pump fakes and good body control to get to the rim and finish

  • Defensively plays man very good and plays with a mean streak to him.

  • Solid help defender and weak side shot blocker as well

  • Needs to work on lateral quickness and faster feet as he struggles against recovery defense and defending quicker players

  • Can do it all on the court and reminds of like a Walmart version of Lebron James honestly

  • Can play the 3, 4 and possibly even small ball 5 in any rotation for a while in the NBA

  • Mix of Draymond/Gerald Wallace

  • RANGE: Starter/Do It All rotational big ——————- If the 3 point shot regresses will still be a back end rotation/ 3rd string big

(20 spots higher than consensus)
