Mouhamed Gueye- Washington State (PF/C) Age:20.6yrs 6’11 213 (Chris Boucher)

There are flashes of a lot of skill with Gueye at times being able to knock down a three ball but still an area for much more consistency because of what he did take while his form looks solid it did not fall. The most intriguing part though is his ability to put the ball on the floor and take big men off the dribble with various different moves. He has a frail frame so he is going to need to fill out for both the offense and defensive end in controlling the interior.

Intriguing big who can roll/cut but also post up, spot-up shoot, and crash boards. Has really good foot work in the low post. Shoots over smaller defenders or do a post fade against taller defenders. Lengthy enough to bother shots in the perimeter and at the rim. Active rebounder both on offense and defense. Needs to get stronger to be able to play center, but adding weight can limit his mobility on both ends. Needs to improve quickness; is a tad late to rotate in help defense, and often fouls because of that. Player comparison: smaller Mo Bamba with Ayton post moves.

STRENGTHS: (by dkdraftkings.com) One of Gueye’s biggest strengths is his movement. He is said to run the floor like a guard, but he has the size of a big man. Gueye is a career 27.7% shooter from beyond the arc, which isn’t a bad clip for a big man looking to stretch the floor. He handles the ball well, and with the way the game is evolving, he should be able to become a better distributor at the next level.

WEAKNESSES: Gueye needs to work on being more efficient with his shots. He may not get a lot of opportunities to shoot at the next level and needs to be relied upon when he does get a look. Gueye is also a great offensive rebounder, but it hasn’t always translated to his boards on the defensive side of the ball. He likes to run in transition but may be called upon to box out and provide more assistance on the glass.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of Thon Maker and Mo Bamba

  • Projected Draft Position: Picks 50-58/Undrafted

  • Best Fits: Washigton Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks

Athletic, agile center, moves like a forward 7’ tall, ideal Really pure shooter, beautiful form, stretch 5 Covers so much ground with each step Could do to refine post play mechanics, loses ball and control often Really bursty, gets from the three point line to the rack in a matter of seconds Surprisingly quick first step Extreme athletic player, unheard-of vertical, quickness, and build Needs refining, unpolished player that isn’t ready for NBA basketball Nice rebounder, grabs the ball up high (not sturdy, doesn’t block out much, however) Pnr beast Dunker potential. Just dominates off the catch-and-dunk Intelligent put back threat Size + Athleticism = Defensive Versatility Was the center of Washington State’s defense last year, truly makes things happen Like his shooting, makes him such a threat in all facets of the game

  • Assist/Turnover Ratio, 1.9-to-2.3 Really active, stays aggressive throughout the entirety of games Would like him to get others involved (screens, passing, DHO’s) Can rely on athleticism too much, fails to focus of mechanics Misses open cutters and drivers, needs to be a floor general in the post Can be a forward in the NBA, plays like one Love how he just keeps his hand up on smaller forwards, effective maneuver Ball security needs to improve when moving to the NBA Really disturbing efficiency nume=bers this year - 48, 27, and 68, - for easy shot selections? Atrocious 49% from the free throw line in 2021-22 Can have a lack of awareness on defense, lose man Sets lackadaisical screens, doesn’t get his body into the defender, makes no impact Hustle player in the paint Double-Double monster in college, got it seamlessly every game Disappointing and cringy maneuvers on D, such as awkward steal attempts Couldn’t keep up in transition with an active big in Adem Bona

Tier 5: Rotation piece (5th, 6th, 7th men of a middle team or end of the bench of a contender)

Explosiveness, burst at the rim, a raw talent who's 7" tall and can destroy everyone who stays in front of him. He is a project. He has to be more consistent to become a good rotational piece in the long term.

Best fit team :

Best Rank : 47. Lowest Rank : 57. Final Rank : 55.

Rank in the 2023 official NBA draft : 39 with the Atlanta Hawks or Boston Celtics.

Tier 8) PROJECT/FRINGE ROTATIONAL PLAYER

  • 6’10 skinny with long arms

  • 20 years old but only going into his 3rd year of playing basketball

  • Pick and Pop big that has a nice jumper from 3 and the mid range

  • Has an okay handle and skill for size for but still raw and lacking of IQ

  • He mainly faces up in the midrange and used as a pick and popper but shown flashes of pick and roll Dunkin’s and rim running in transition

  • Down low scoring non existent and he gets bullied often

  • Moves look good but he gets pushed and bodied and loses balance usually causing a turnover

  • Just needs more reps playing basketball and I think his jumper and low post finishing will get better

  • Defensive IQ also not really there and has tools to be shot blocker but again skinny body doesn’t let him go up strong to contest and gets bullied

  • has potential to guard out on the perimeter but lacks discipline to stay down and shift now

  • Chris Boucher/Luke Kornet

  • RANGE: Rotational/Backup 5 who spaces floor—————- End of Bench/Overseas

(3 spots lower than consensus)

Big: 6'11" / 7'3" WS / 9'3" SR

Gueye is a raw big who flashes rare fluidity and shooting ability, he will be a project big for whatever team takes the swing. He is super mobile and has shown intriguing drive and finishes. He is a good jumper and is quick off the ground in the dunker spot. From outside he is comfortable and has consistent mechanics but the efficiency isn't there yet. He is super unpolished on the defensive end, being undisciplined and consistently being slow to make rotations. He also needs to gain some strength to be effective on the interior on both ends of the ball. He has the tools and mobility to be a super switchable big and a great shot blocker but that version of him is a few years away.

Long Term NBA Role/Ceiling: Starting Center / Versatile defender & floor spacer

Draft Range: Mid - Late second round

Player Comparison: Christian Wood
