Olivier Maxence-Prosper: 6’7.75” 212 lbs 7’1” wingspan 20.9 years old Junior, Marquette. 12.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 0.7 apg, 0.9 spg, 0.1 bpg, 51.2% fg%, 33.9% 3%, 73.5% ft%

Overview: Olivier Maxence-Prosper is a relentless point of attack defender who has the size to be effective in the same role in the NBA. His shooting improvements and activity demonstrated both at the Combine and in Marquette’s impressive year helped “O-Max” rise up boards. His game relies on energy and activity on both ends. With improvement to his shooting, he could easily be a rotation wing for years to come in the NBA who dives on floors, fights for rebounds and irritates top scorers.

Strengths: Nimble and explosive athlete with a terrific motor. Good cutter. 65% at the rim. 35 dunks plus 9 tip ins. Projectable role as a 3 and D that he will embrace. Strong body that can add weight if he wants. 33.9% shooter showing decent touch. Absolute nightmare fighting through screens.

Weaknesses: Shooting concerns of how valid it is. 1 of 5 in the combine from deep. 34% unguarded catch and shoot. 33% guarded catch and shoot. Straight line drives only. For a defensive ace, only 1 steal + block per game is alarmingly low.

  • Athletic

  • Patient w/the ball

  • Scoring naturally

  • Defensive activity

Weaknesses:

  • Hasn’t proven to be a consistent shooter

  • Needs to continue to add to his playmaking repertoire

  • Pull up jumper needs work

Rundown:

Nothing is stopping Omax from becoming an NBA contributor right away. He seemingly has everything you can ask for in a star role player. He is an active defender, he can get to the rim on offense, he’s becoming a solid shooter, makes good connective passes, and has warranted confidence in all of his abilities. While it’s unfortunate that he isn’t a year younger, that won’t hinder him. When you have an athlete, who is also skilled, he’s bound to succeed.

Olivier-Maxence Prosper has had a meteoric rise in the postseason of this year's draft cycle. He wasn't the most productive player at Marquette and Clemson but he flashed a lot of potential that left many thinking he has real NBA-level potential. Not putting up huge numbers for three years is somewhat concerning but he’s a young junior that doesn’t turn twenty-one until after the draft. He ended up receiving a combine invite and really came out of the experience as a guy that was rising up draft boards. He’s a standout athlete with great physical tools that he uses to make a big impact on both ends of the floor. He slips to the rim with ease and can fight through a bit of contact despite being a little lean. His burst allows him to catch defenders of his size off balance and his length ends up being overwhelming for smaller players when rolling inside. His vertical and burst are very impressive for a player of his size and even though he wasn’t the most prolific finisher in college, his driving ability should translate well, he was highly efficient close to the basket, and had put up good splits. He probably could have done better if he went to straight line attacks more often instead of moving around and going to post moves, his athleticism is an advantage that he should go to more. His mental capacity for cutting is almost as good as his physical abilities. He’s very aware as an off-ball mover and watches what the ball handler is doing, he will thrive when placed next to an NBA playmaker and distributor that can help him get the ball more effectively. At Marquette he was placed in a very modern system that gives a good look as to how he might work in the league, Shaka Smart used him in what was mostly an off-ball role as a cutter and shooter which is probably what he will end up being. He was used as an occasional corner option from three where he was a little streaky but he showed progress as the season went on. He probably isn’t going to be a guy that scores on the perimeter heavily but he showed a lot of poise and comfortability when moving behind the arc as a junior. His overall touch from inside isn’t anything special but his high splits and his percentage from the free-throw line give some hope that he has potential as a shooter. His ball handling is a bit sloppy so a lot of his future attempts will probably come off of spot-up looks like they did in college. He will not be able to take on an on-ball role because of his limitations when making decisions and processing speed when moving with the ball. He can’t make very precise passes and has struggled with simple reads like kick outs and handoffs. He did attempt to give out the ball and initiate plays for others but he just wasn’t accurate enough when it comes to getting the ball to teammates. Defensively he looked like a playmaker on tape despite not racking up a lot of steals and blocks. He runs the floor in transition very well and is good at sticking with his assignments physically and mentally in general, he switches very well and should be able to keep up with the pace of play in the league. He’s very jumpy when watching people moving off the ball and is always shifting around. His long limbs and tendency to always keep his feet moving should allow him to continue to shut down guys on the perimeter as he did in college. His anxiousness can cause him to make some timing mistakes and have some mishaps happen but I expect this to prove over time. His tools should make it so he works defensively at the next level and I have very little doubt that he won't be at least solid. He has all the makings of what a team could want in a versatile role player, he does things offensively and defensively that should be desirable for a roster in need of help with wing or forward depth which seems to be something you can’t have enough of. He has all the traits that front offices love in a modern-day low-maintenance scorer and should be a capable defender that plays hard.

Oliver-Maxence Prosper- Marquette (PF) Age:20.9yrs 6’8 212 (Obi Toppin)

Prosper is a big time lob threat and fast break option as he uses his excellent straight line speed and vertical to put pressure on teams in transition. He crashes the boards hard for put backs and has a three ball that is average but will only be utilized in catch and shoot situations but not any sort of dribble pull up game at the moment. Defensively he has a high motor and is very active. He moves well on the perimeter but will need to get stronger to match up with bigger players down low.

Athletic hyper active wing. Great size and length. Constantly attacking the rim on offense off the catch. Good rebounder. Bothers drivers and shot makers with his length. Can get better moving his feet laterally. Shooting needs to be more consistent, but can make the occasional open three.

  • capable of spacing the floor from 3 (especially in the corners)

  • very athletic and versatile defender that will be able to switch onto any player on the court

  • love him as a lockdown 3&D wing that will be the steal of the draft

Olivier-Maxence Prosper was one of the biggest draft risers as a result of the Draft Combine and the scrimmages. During the scrimmages, he showed his willingness to take contact and drive into the bodies of the big man, drawing a ton of fouls in the process. That was a consistent thing in this past college season, attempting the most free throws on the team during the season with 151 attempts. He is very much an inside/outside threat; either he attacks the basket with bad intentions or as a three point shooter. His finishing at the basket was exceptional, shooting 65% at the rim. He does not have a great handle; I don't expect him to be one to create off dribble, but he is a quick decision maker who instantly drives on the catch, which throws defenses and rotations off. I thought he had a great ability to back cut and run on the fast break, scoring 124 of his points on the break. His shooting at Marquette was very spotty. He only shot 34% on catch-and-shoot attempts and 34% from three, overall. 33 of his 39 total makes from downtown were off the catch, not showing much versatility with doing things off the dribble. I thought his mechanics were pretty solid, and I like his high release point for his size. He was a great defensive perimeter defender this past season. He measured in at 6'7" with a 7'1" wingspan, and that was his biggest asset on that end. He was a disciplined perimeter defender that knew how to jump without fouling on contests, and you were able to see how disruptive he was by the way the shooter leaned or double clutched on their jumpers. You would love to see more blocks from him though, only having five blocks on the year. With the wingspan of his, he should have more. He has a lot of potential being a guy who can guard 1-5; he is a special perimeter defending talent. Olivier-Maxence Prosper is your typical offensive prospect with interesting intangibles, but his defense and his physical traits are excellent, and worth a gamble to develop in the second round.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of Jae Crowder and PJ Tucker

  • Projected Draft Position: Picks 35-45

  • Best Fits: Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets

Tremendous defender with so much potential Like his build, maybe short and small for a forward, but stiff and bulky Awkwardly slow, lack of any athletic burst or first step Tremendous combine, showed out in scrimmages Like him as a spot-up shooter, pure form Floor spaces, opens offense up Moves odd on defense, rigid movements that work Stays down against defender, very grounded and mechanical with his perimeter, 1-on-1 defense Intelligent help defender Fluid and stable handler Good use of spins and fakes in the post, misdirects defense Surprisingly solid as a driver, finishes after and through contact with a certain stability - Has solid manipulation, defenders never know what’s coming Competitor on all sides of the ball, does whatever it takes to win Can be the driving force behind powerful runs Keeps his hands up, active, disrupts shots and passing lanes Easy vision for Prosper as a plug-and-play forward with shooting, driving, and defensive capabilities Impressive flashes of extreme vertical athleticism Very strong forward, uninterrupted by defensive pressure Worked so well as a C&S Threat at Marquette Flashes of driving, take-it-to-the-rim ability, has a certain physicality that's so hard to stop as he gets to the line Really moves so well down the court, accelerates quickly Mediocre shooting form, lacks purity Can lack full awareness, lose his man on D Big forward always looking to drive the rack Super lengthy, effective on both the interior and perimeter Constantly gets to the rack with such interior tenacity Really wide chest, improves presence and physicality as a player Very versatile, can shoot, play inside, guard 2-5 Thrives as the game starts, slowly loses momentum Active rebounder who keeps possessions going Can lack focus and feel at the point of attack Grew so much more comfortable with his shooting form as the season progressed

Prosper is likely a late riser throughout the draft process, as he has the rare potential to guard 1-5. His hands are super active, and he has near-perfect footwork when guarding players in both the post and on the perimeter. His length forces perimeter players into contested pull-up jumpers, and he is really suffocating in isolation.

His assignments throughout the season really showed this versatility. Villanova? He handled power wing, Cam Whitmore. Xavier? He was on lead guard Colby Jones. UConn? He chased around Jordan Hawkins and ran him off the line. He is skinny enough to get around ball screens and chase people like the aforementioned Hawkins around screens, and his defensive tape is super special.

Propser is no slouch offensively either. He was a fantastic finisher this year who converted 65% of his looks at the hoop this year. When you combine that with his willingness to cut and get open, you have someone who will get you some easy buckets throughout the game.

Vertically he offers a bit as well. He is able to go up and get the ball in transition offense and finish over wings and smaller guards but likely doesn't have the explosiveness to finish over a 7-footer. Prosper is also a more than capable driver and excelled at finishing through contact in order to get as close to the rim as possible.

Shooting is still a question for Prosper, but he shot 33% on catch-and-shoot looks this season for Marquette, and he has good form with a high release point. He shoots with a ton of confidence and has improved as a shooter throughout his entire career.
